**POSITION SUMMARY**

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced legal professional to join the Commercial & Legal function as Head of Legal.

Reporting directly to the Commercial & Legal Director, you will lead and develop the Legal team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality legal support across the business. You will play a key role in supporting commercial objectives while managing legal risk, providing practical and commercially focused advice across a broad range of activities including commercial contracting, compliance, corporate matters and strategic projects.

**WHAT YOU WILL DO**

-   Lead, coach and develop the Legal team, fostering a high-performance culture.
-   Act as a trusted legal advisor to stakeholders across Commercial, Procurement, Finance, Marketing, Operations, Engineering and Human Resources.
-   Provide legal support across all commercial, corporate and compliance activities.
-   Negotiate, draft and review a wide range of commercial agreements and contracts.
-   Ensure company standard agreements safeguard business interests while supporting efficient contracting processes.
-   Monitor developments in UK and overseas legislation, assessing business impact and implementing appropriate actions.
-   Manage external legal advisors and outsourced legal support where required.
-   Advise the business on legal risks, opportunities and regulatory compliance matters.
-   Draft, review and update legal policies and procedures, delivering guidance and training where appropriate.
-   Oversee property-related legal matters, including lease renewals and landlord relationships.
-   Support the Commercial & Legal Director with departmental budgeting and expenditure management.
-   Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls and regulatory requirements.
-   Champion company values and promote a culture of integrity, collaboration and accountability.

**WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL**

-   Qualified to practise as a Solicitor or Barrister in Scotland.
-   Strong academic background and legal qualification.
-   Proven experience operating in a senior in-house legal role or equivalent.
-   Effective leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor and develop others.
-   Excellent commercial awareness and sound business judgement.
-   Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
-   Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
-   Ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives.
-   Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
-   Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise multiple demands.
-   High levels of professionalism, integrity and attention to detail.
-   Experience managing relationships with external legal advisors and internal stakeholders.
