# Project Manager - Structural Steel & Precast Construction

## Description

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee structural steel and precast construction projects throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. The ideal candidate has direct experience working for a structural steel contractor, steel fabricator, or specialty steel erection company and understands the coordination required between engineering, detailing, fabrication, transportation, crane operations, and field erection.

Experience with precast concrete erection, miscellaneous metals, and ornamental iron is highly valued. This role is responsible for managing projects from kickoff through final closeout, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to established quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

-   Manage structural steel and precast construction projects from kickoff through completion, turnover, and closeout.
-   Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, procurement plans, manpower forecasts, fabrication schedules, and equipment requirements.
-   Coordinate with superintendents, field crews, detailers, fabricators, subcontractors, suppliers, crane operators, and general contractors.
-   Review structural drawings, shop drawings, erection drawings, specifications, contracts, and other project documents.
-   Coordinate engineering, detailing, fabrication, delivery, and field erection to maintain project schedules.
-   Monitor project financial performance, including budgets, committed costs, labor productivity, forecasts, billing, change orders, and profitability.
-   Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, pay applications, and other project documentation.
-   Coordinate fabrication schedules, material releases, transportation, delivery sequencing, crane requirements, and site logistics.
-   Ensure drawings, materials, equipment, and manpower are available when needed for field erection.
-   Identify and resolve fabrication, detailing, delivery, scheduling, and coordination issues before they affect project performance.
-   Coordinate erection sequencing with field leadership, crane operators, general contractors, and other trades.
-   Lead project meetings and provide updates to owners, engineers, general contractors, and company leadership.
-   Monitor subcontractor and supplier performance and resolve issues affecting cost, schedule, quality, or safety.
-   Coordinate inspections, punch-list completion, warranty requirements, turnover, and final closeout documentation.
-   Maintain strong relationships with owners, engineers, fabricators, suppliers, subcontractors, general contractors, and other project stakeholders.

## Requirements

-   5+ years of project management experience in structural steel construction.
-   **Required:** Commercial or industrial structural steel erection experience.
-   **Required:** Experience working for a structural steel contractor, steel fabricator, or specialty steel erection company.
-   Experience with precast concrete erection, miscellaneous metals, or ornamental iron strongly preferred.
-   Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, detailing, erection sequencing, procurement, transportation, crane operations, and site logistics.
-   Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, erection drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction documents.
-   Experience managing project budgets, forecasting, billing, change orders, procurement, subcontractors, and cost control.
-   Understanding of coordination between engineering, detailing, fabrication, transportation, crane operations, and field erection.
-   Experience working with general contractors, structural engineers, fabricators, erectors, and field personnel.
-   Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
-   Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
-   Ability to manage multiple projects across office, fabrication, and field operations.
-   Knowledge of structural steel project risks, including fabrication schedules, material availability, delivery constraints, crane access, and erection sequencing.
-   Candidates located in or able to reliably commute to Milwaukee and Southeastern Wisconsin are preferred.

**Important:** General commercial construction project management experience without direct structural steel project experience does not meet the requirements for this position.
