# Project Manager - Commercial HVAC / Mechanical Construction

## Description

We are looking for a Project Manager to lead commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects in a contractor environment, with direct ownership of project execution from preconstruction through closeout. AlphaHire is recruiting on behalf of a client, an established mechanical contractor specializing in commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and installations. This role requires hands-on leadership across project scheduling, budgeting, subcontractor performance, field operations, and client communication. The successful candidate will help deliver quality installations, maintain project profitability, and ensure commercial projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Responsibilities

-   Lead commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects from estimating handoff and preconstruction through installation, commissioning, and final closeout.
-   Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, cost forecasts, and labor plans to meet contractual milestones and profitability targets.
-   Direct field teams, subcontractors, and vendors to maintain productivity, installation quality, and jobsite safety.
-   Review mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, and equipment selections to identify scope gaps and resolve constructability issues.
-   Manage RFIs, change orders, procurement schedules, and documentation to prevent delays and control project costs.
-   Monitor job costing, labor hours, material expenditures, and subcontractor costs to identify and address budget variances.
-   Serve as the primary point of contact for general contractors, owners, engineers, inspectors, and internal field personnel.
-   Track permitting, inspections, equipment deliveries, startup, testing, and commissioning to support timely project completion.
-   Lead project closeout activities, including punch lists, turnover documentation, warranty coordination, and client handoff.

## Requirements

-   5+ years of project management experience in commercial HVAC, mechanical contracting, or commercial construction projects involving mechanical systems.
-   Demonstrated direct ownership of commercial mechanical projects from preconstruction through closeout, rather than experience limited to project coordination or administrative support.
-   Strong understanding of HVAC installation, mechanical drawings, construction specifications, equipment procurement, and field execution.
-   Experience managing project budgets, job costing, change orders, RFIs, subcontractors, and construction schedules.
-   Proficiency with construction project management software, scheduling tools, and standard office applications.
-   Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications and resolve technical issues with field teams and design professionals.
-   Experience working directly with general contractors, owners, engineers, and inspectors in an active commercial construction environment.
-   Commercial HVAC or mechanical contracting experience is required; residential-only HVAC experience will not be sufficient.
