### **Position Overview**

Reporting to the HSE Manager, the Safety Advisor is responsible developing, implementing, and supporting all field management and staff safety requirements.

### **Key Responsibilities**

**Communication and Meetings**

-   Regularly communicate with the HSE Manager, Directors, and other departments to ensure timely distribution of critical information.
-   Ensure safety meetings occur with completed agendas and minutes.
-   Attend Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and provide support to Co-Chairs, including agenda planning and minutes.
-   Attend Tailboard meetings and provide feedback on completed records in SiteDocs at a minimum of four per week.
-   Attend operations meetings to ensure upcoming project safety and environmental requirements are in place and that client site visit scheduling is satisfied.

**Compliance and Documentation**

-   Ensure work procedures and practices remain current with new and changing regulations and legislation.
-   Maintain all records of incidents, corrective actions, inspection deficiencies, and near-misses, ensuring proper documentation is reflected in company files.
-   Organize all safety documentation to be readily accessible to managers and crews.
-   Complete client-specific safety documentation submissions, including for subcontractors.
-   Monitor SiteDocs for completed records and provide feedback to supervisors.

**Inspections and Field Visits**

-   Conduct office, yard, project, vehicle, Personal Protective Equipment, and equipment inspections to ensure policies and procedures are properly implemented.
-   Conduct a minimum of one documented field visit per week.
-   Support supervisors in completing required inspection and safety meeting frequencies and preliminary incident investigations.

**Training and Orientations**

-   Manage and ensure all field crew training is completed, documented, and current in compliance with regulatory requirements.
-   Research and schedule employee training as required, ensuring completion prior to expiration where possible.
-   Conduct orientations for new hires, pre-project staff, subcontractors, and visitors, including tools and Personal Protective Equipment inspections, competency assessments, drug and alcohol testing, and training record submission.

**Safety Planning**

-   Develop and present safety meeting materials to crews at a minimum of once per month per project or area.
-   Establish site-specific emergency, safety, and environmental plans including safe work procedures, fall protection plans, critical lift plans, grounding plans, traffic control plans, confined space assessments, and safety mitigation plans.
-   Ensure annual rescue drills are completed and documented.
-   Work with crew leads to identify and register STARs sites for medical evacuations.

**Incident Management**

-   Complete root cause investigations within required timeframes.
-   Recommend and assist in implementing corrective actions.
-   Complete lessons learned bulletins for each assigned investigation report.
-   Prepare and present incident review presentations for client conferences.

**Audits and Regulatory Relations**

-   Conduct all Certificate of Recognition internal audits and prepare for successful external audits.
-   Research Occupational Health and Safety regulations, client directives, and industry best practices to ensure a best-in-class safety management system.
-   Liaise with and maintain good standing relationships with regulatory bodies including the Workers Compensation Board, construction safety associations, and federal and provincial government agencies.

**Inventory and Procurement**

-   Request quotes for Personal Protective Equipment and other safety items.
-   Maintain and control site Personal Protective Equipment inventories.

## Requirements

-   Three to five years of previous construction safety experience.
-   Post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree from a recognized institution in safety and/or environmental fields.
-   Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation preferred; National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation required.
-   Powerline industry experience preferred; electrical experience is considered an asset.
-   In-depth knowledge of electricity, working at heights, cranes, rigging, confined space, occupational hygiene, and ground disturbance activities.
-   Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required; working knowledge of Google Earth and other related platforms an asset.
-   Exceptional time management, analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
-   Strong presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
-   Ability to manage shifting priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
-   Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as required; this is a field-based role with regular travel expected.
-   Professional demeanor with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
