## Description

Our client is a UK-based B2B software company specialising in technology for the energy and commodity markets.

They are looking for a hands-on **Principal Software Engineer** to join a small engineering team building complex software for the European energy and trading market.

This is a technical leadership role first, with people management alongside it. You’ll continue writing and reviewing production code every week while also leading and developing a small team of engineers.

## Requirements

You’ll take ownership of the technical direction of a core product area, working from well-defined requirements through design, development and delivery.

### **Key responsibilities include:**

-   Write, review and ship production code regularly using **C#/.NET and Azure**
-   Lead technical design and make architecture decisions, balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability
-   Design, develop, refactor, debug, test and support high-quality software
-   Line-manage and mentor a small team of engineers
-   Lead code and design reviews and constructively challenge technical decisions
-   Own automated unit testing and promote strong engineering practices
-   Identify root causes of complex technical issues and implement long-term solutions
-   Contribute to planning, estimation and requirements refinement

### **What We’re Looking For**

-   **10+ years of commercial software engineering experience**
-   Strong, recent and hands-on **C#/.NET** experience, including .NET Core/Web API
-   Experience with **Azure** and cloud-based software development
-   Strong system design and software architecture skills
-   Experience with **SQL and NoSQL** databases
-   Docker, containerisation and orchestration experience
-   Strong understanding of SOLID principles, design patterns and integration patterns
-   Experience with automated testing and code reviews
-   Proven **people management / line management** experience while remaining hands-on technically
-   Fluent English and strong communication skills
-   A stable career history and experience working in complex products

### Nice to Have

-   Experience in **fintech, payments, trading, energy or another complex/regulated domain**
-   Experience in a smaller product-focused company
-   Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform, Bicep or ARM
-   GitHub Actions, SonarCloud or CodeQL
-   Experience with multi-tenant SaaS products
-   TypeScript, Angular, JavaScript or Python
