Transportation Department's Mission

"To provide safe, secure, efficient, professional, and timely transportation services for Bay District students."

Bay District Schools Transportation Department is committed to providing safe, secure, efficient, professional, and timely transportation services for eligible Bay County public education students, staff and employees.

The Transportation Department supports all the district transportation needs ranging from busing to and from school, special needs busing, field trips and athletic sporting competitions, and educational activity trips. Our primary purpose is to ensure that the district has clean, safe, and well maintained vehicles. We have a trained, certified and licensed staff, providing reliable fleet and operational transportation services. The department has a full-time vehicle maintenance facility that routinely services all the district vehicles consisting of approximately 120 school buses and 66 support vehicles.

Safety is our number one goal and we take pride in our record, which is a great reflection on our combination of 140 dedicated drivers, bus para-professionals, substitutes, safety and training staff. Our buses travel in excess of 11,000 miles daily and approximately 2,500,000 miles a year. Our drivers receive annual training which far exceeds Florida’s minimum required standards. Bus drivers must have a 5-year driving record with no major violations and possess (or be willing to undergo training to acquire) a valid and current Florida Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the appropriate School Bus Driver (S), and Passenger (P) endorsements. Also, they must pass an extensive background check, meet a physical tolerance profile, and undergo random and pre-employment drug testing.

We are always searching for quality school bus drivers. Also, we are always looking for new and innovative ways to improve our services. We have implemented a computerized routing system, which assists us with of finding efficiencies in bus routes and provide more detailed information to parents and school staff. We also use GPS/AVL technology on our school bus vehicles to track their locations, and to assist mechanics with remote engine diagnostics. Besides being equipped with digital two-way radio to a centralized dispatch communications station, each district school bus vehicle is also equipped with DVR video recording surveillance technology primarily used for student safety and monitoring discipline on-board.
