# Game Designer

> Big Potato · London, United Kingdom (Hybrid) · Full-time · Posted 2026-10-12

**Workplace:** hybrid

**Department:** Game Development

## Description

We make games that light up moments we share together. We're a team of about 80 based in Clerkenwell, London, US and Germany, and we're growing fast.

We're looking for a Game Designer to dream up brand new games, test them and help bring them to life. You don't need to have designed a game before. We want fresh ideas from any creative background, whether that's writing, product design, branding, advertising, digital or something else.

What you'll do

- Create new games. Come up with game ideas that fit our briefs, our players and our price points.
- Build and test. Turn ideas into rough playable versions, then test them with the team and with players outside the business. Listen, change things and test again.
- Spot what's next. Keep an eye on games, play and wider culture, and turn what you find into new ideas.
- Pitch with confidence. Stand up and share your ideas. Tell the story behind them and get the room as excited as you are.
- Help us launch. Name new products, help make short "how to play" videos and play through samples before they go on sale.
- Make games for everyone. Design games anyone can enjoy, whatever their background, and find ways to cut the carbon footprint of what we make.

## Requirements

What we're looking for

You must have:

- Experience of coming up with original ideas you've made real. It could be products, projects, formats, writing or experiences. Show us how you think, not just how it looks.
- Experience turning a rough idea into something people can try, use or react to.
- A habit of testing your work, listening to feedback and changing things because of it.
- A strong sense of what makes something fun, and why.
- Lots of ideas. You pitch things, and you're happy to see some of them fail.
- Good organisation. You can juggle the practical side: people, deadlines, logistics and follow ups.
- Curiosity about culture, trends and how people play.
- Clear writing. You can explain an idea simply and sum up what you learned.
- A habit of making things for everyone, whatever their gender, race, sexual orientation or background.

- A love of playing games of any kind.
- Experience working to a brief, an audience or a budget.

Don't tick every box? Apply anyway

We are committed to building brilliant teams that reflect a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences, and we strongly encourage applications from underrepresented groups.

Research shows that people from underrepresented backgrounds are less likely to apply unless they meet every requirement. So if this role excites you, don't worry about ticking every single box. At Big Potato, we care more about potential, attitude and fresh thinking than a perfect CV.

## Benefits

- A four day week. We were one of the first companies to bring this in, and we've never looked back.

- 16 days' annual leave (full time), plus bank and public holidays.
- A £500 holiday bonus every year (pro rata).
- A share of the business. You join our Employee Benefit Trust after 12 months, so everyone owns a part of Big Potato.
- Free BUPA private healthcare.
- Access to the Government Pension Scheme.
- Free eye tests and a cycle to work scheme.
- Discounted gym and free monthly yoga.
- Monthly paid socials, plus summer and Christmas parties.
- Free games. Obviously.
- Free fruit, snacks and drinks, including soft drinks, tea, coffee, and office wine and beer.
- A dog friendly office.
