### About the Role

The Controls Designer develops electrical and pneumatic designs for custom industrial automation systems. This role is responsible for creating accurate, practical, and cost-effective controls designs that meet customer requirements and can be efficiently built, integrated, and supported by the project team.

**Location:** Lexington, KY  
**Employment Type:** Full Time**Department:** Engineering  
**Wage:** $36/hr. - $45/hr.  
  
**RESPONSIBILITIES**

-   Develop electrical and pneumatic schematics for custom automation systems using SolidWorks Electrical.
-   Review project scope, customer specifications, and functional requirements to determine controls-design requirements.
-   Select electrical, safety, controls, and pneumatic components based on technical requirements, availability, cost, and customer standards.
-   Participate in concept, internal design, and customer design reviews.
-   Work closely with Mechanical Design, Programming, Applications, Project Management, and Build teams throughout the project lifecycle.
-   Support Applications Engineering with controls concepts, design-labor estimates, and controls-purchase estimates.
-   Develop technical requirements and RFQs for major controls purchases and communicate with suppliers regarding specifications, pricing, and lead times.
-   Identify long-lead components, technical risks, design conflicts, and potential budget or schedule impacts.
-   Support the Build and Programming teams by resolving controls-design issues during assembly, integration, and commissioning.
-   Communicate with customers as required to ensure designs meet applicable specifications and standards.
-   Maintain accurate project documentation, including as-built schematics, bills of materials, spare-parts lists, and OEM documentation.
-   Develop and maintain controls-design standards, templates, and best practices.

## Requirements

-   Minimum 5 years of direct experience in electrical controls design for industrial machinery or automation systems is required.
-   Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
-   Experience with SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar electrical-design software.
-   Working knowledge of industrial controls, including PLC-based systems, I/O, safety devices, sensors, motor controls, and pneumatic systems.
-   Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, technical specifications, and customer standards.
-   Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
-   Experience in custom industrial automation is considered an asset.
