### Department Information

The Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI) regulates the insurance industry in Colorado. Its oversight covers health, auto, homeowners, life, and title insurance, as well as pre-need funeral contracts, and it enforces the Colorado insurance laws that regulate the bail bonding industry.

The division is an information resource for Coloradans and helps people understand their insurance. It answers consumers’ questions, provides education about insurance, and investigates consumer complaints so that people receive the benefits they have paid for. The division also regulates and monitors insurance companies and agents to make sure they follow state and federal laws. It monitors the financial health of Colorado-based insurers and reviews premiums, policy benefits, and companies’ marketing, underwriting, and claims practices. Its aim is a regulatory environment that keeps the marketplace competitive and gives consumers better access and choices.

The division is part of the Department of Regulatory Agencies. The Insurance Commissioner serves as its chief executive and brings together consumers, the insurance industry, and other stakeholders to create an inclusive, firm, and fair regulatory approach to all lines of insurance, including auto, health, homeowners, life, property and casualty, title, and workers’ compensation.
