## Description

The Process Safety Engineer will be responsible for supporting process safety studies, risk assessments, and governance activities, ensuring compliance with statutory and corporate requirements. The role contributes to the management of safety barriers, risk mitigation measures, process safety programmes, and continuous improvement initiatives across operations.

**Responsibilities** 

-   Plan and be accountable for the execution of regular technical safety studies and risk assessments 

-   Select consultancies and guide the execution of BWE procedures for safety studies and risk assessments 

-   Lead risk assessments using different techniques, with and without support from consultancies 

-   Support the management of the reliability and availability of Safety Critical Elements 

-   Guide the management of change related to process safety 

-    Conduct regular risk analyses across operational processes, identifying gaps and recommending corrective actions to address safety deficiencies. 

-   Collaborate with other team leads and disciplines to identify opportunities to improve processes for both safety and productivity. 

-   Contribute to the definition of process safety programme requirements and work with activity owners to ensure those requirements are effectively implemented. 

-   Support the implementation and maintenance of barriers identified across all major event scenarios, monitoring their effectiveness and escalating deviations. 

-   Keep up to date with Process Safety policy developments, legislative changes, and emerging best practices, sharing relevant insights with the team. 

-   Participate in the delivery of process safety governance and assurance activities, including audit preparation, data gathering, and action plan follow-up. 

-   Facilitate operational and major hazard risk assessments under the guidance of the Process Safety Lead, progressively taking ownership of assessments as experience grows. 

-   Develop and review standards and procedures in Process Safety, supporting their implementation to ensure Personal Safety risks are mitigated to a level that is As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP), in compliance with all statutory and corporate requirements and aligned with industry best practices. 

-   Contribute to workforce process safety communications, including incident trend summaries, investigation findings, process safety bulletins, and lessons learned materials. 

-   Represent BWE at relevant industry forums and networking activities as appropriate, disseminating learnings to the workforce and participating in incident investigations as required. 

-   Support the achievement of safety KPIs.

## Requirements

**Education** 

-   Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related areas. 

-   Postgraduate qualification in Process Safety, HSE Management, or a related discipline is desirable. 

**Experience** 

-   Experience in Process Safety within Oil & Gas or Petrochemical related industries, with solid experience in the operation, maintenance, and inspection of Upstream and Downstream oil and gas processing facilities. 

-   Technical knowledge across the main aspects of Process Safety Management. 

-   Good knowledge of Hazard and Risk Analysis methodologies, including HAZOP, HAZID, QRA, SIL assessments, LOPA, area classification, and dispersion analyses. 

-   Good knowledge of CCPS/IOSH Process Safety standards, applicable industry codes, regulations, and best practices. 

-   Good analytical skills with the ability to recognise trends, assess risks, and identify root causes. 

-   Ability to apply sound judgement in problem solving, evaluating courses of action, and making decisions on complex health and safety matters. 

**Knowledge** 

-   Advanced English.

-   Excellent report writing skills.
