**Job Title:** Advocate Counselor / Case Manager

**Salary: $27.47 per hour**

**Summary:**  Advocate Counselors provide effective college and career advising and awareness to students assigned to their caseload to support a strong postsecondary plan and ensure that students graduate feeling comfortable with their postsecondary choices. To do this effectively, Advocate Counselors earn rapport and establish a supportive relationship with each student on their caseload.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities** include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

_\- Developmental, Social Services_

1.  Responsible for overseeing student caseload and collaborating with school personnel for best outcomes
2.  Foster student social intelligence through advisory workshops and community events
3.  Create and adapt the existing advisory curriculum for engaging lesson planning to meet students' developmental needs and/or employability skills
4.  Assist families with referrals to outside organizations that provide health services, day care, emergency shelter and additional social services as needed
5.  Provide intervention and make necessary referrals for students to initiate referral as needed
6.  Conduct attendance outreach through phone calls, letters, case conferencing and/or home visit   

_\- College Access and Post-Graduation Planning_

1.  Provide 1:1 college and career advising to caseload, that leads with a focus on students’ future carers with intentional referrals to college and career exploration activities and work-based learning experiences aligned to the Career Navigation Roadmap.
2.  Tailor the college and career advising trajectory for each student based on the students’ age and number of credits earned upon enrollment in the school, which determines a transfer school student’s proximity to graduation
3.  Offer students guidance and referrals for college and career exploration activities, work-based learning experiences, and career-connected learning opportunities
4.  Track all student interactions/outcomes by complying with all agency and LTW data management and collection protocols
5.  Work closely with the guidance counselor/s and other school staff responsible for college and career advising; participate as member in school’s postsecondary team that includes CBO and NYC public school staff to ensure alignment as outlined in the Career Navigation Roadmap
6.  Attend all of Office of Student Pathways’ training opportunities
7.  Support the Program Director and Work-based Learning Coordinator in identifying advanced coursework that matches a student’s interests and skills
8.  Provide families a menu of resources tha specialize in supporting positive post-secondary outcomes for students
9.  Counsel students to support post-secondary options: college, vocational, certificate, apprenticeship, military, entrepreneurship

_\- Office administrative duties_ 

1.  Support student admission process (outreach, open houses/intake interviews, new students' orientation, parent orientations among others)
2.  Responsible for data entry of all services: attendance outreach, individual counseling, career and college advisement, tutoring, and other interventions and services for caseload assigned  
3.  Assist students not participating in subsidized internships to provide with paid/unpaid work-based learning experiences during the academic year
4.  Attend partnership meetings with school staff and other stakeholders

## Requirements

**Qualifications required:**

1.  Bachelor's degree in related field
2.  Demonstrated commitment to equity, access, and supporting the unique needs of over age, under-credited, and transfer school student populations
3.  Expertise in strengths-based, youth development practices  
4.  Extensive experience working with urban adolescents individually and in groups
5.  Knowledgeable in Microsoft and Excel
6.  Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to conduct outreach, monitor student progress, and provide consistent follow-up 
7.  Strong collaboration skills to work closely with NYC Public Schools guidance counselors, school staff, and CBO teams to ensure a unified and student-centered approach to postsecondary advising
8.  Capacity to simultaneously work on multiple projects and tasks, transitioning easily between working independently and contributing as a member of a team
9.  Commitment to the mission of Catholic Charities Community Services

**Preferred:**

1.  Knowledge of current workforce and employment demands and industry trends in the New York City metropolitan area
2.  Proficiency in another language that is representative of the student population
3.  Skilled in building trust and rapport with students and families, engaging them in postsecondary planning process from enrollment through graduation
