## Description

Control Risks is looking for a researcher to join its Geopolitical and Country Risk team in Mexico City.

The successful candidate will contribute to Control Risks’ analysis of political, security, operational, integrity and social risks across North and Central America and the Caribbean. The role will involve providing expert support to leading companies operating in some of the world’s most important emerging markets.

The role will be based in Mexico City, with the possibility of some travel across the wider region for research and project purposes. The role involves providing research support and analysis for a range of consulting and subscription products on North America, Central America and the Caribbean; work on major consulting projects; and participating in conferences and other events. The role will also require close collaboration with Control Risks’ teams of analysts, investigators, consultants and business developers to support the growth of the business in Mexico City.

The successful candidate will possess a strong, specialist academic and/or professional background in political-risk analysis and an outstanding aptitude for thinking and writing analytically to a very high standard. They will have the ability to convey careful analytical judgment and complex information in a confident, persuasive and accessible manner to clients.

**Role tasks and responsibilities**

Analysis and consulting work:

• Provide research support to consulting engagements for North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

• Maintain an overview of key trends and events concerning North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

• Develop overall country/regional knowledge relating to North America, Central America and the Caribbean to contribute constructively and effectively to GCR’s analytical output.

• Deliver analysis on political, operational, integrity, social and security risk issues in North America, Central America and the Caribbean, both for online services and client consulting engagements.

• Contribute to initiatives to improve GCR’s products, processes and methodologies, collaborating closely with colleagues to improve analytical rigor, including by incorporating quantitative and qualitative data.

• Ensure delivery of written outputs, presentations and workshops in line with Control Risks’ standards, industry best practice and client expectations.

## Requirements

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in related field (international relations, international security, political science, journalism, regional studies, etc.)

• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.

• Ability to write clearly, concisely and authoritatively to tight deadlines.

• As part of a small team, a willingness to take on tasks that fall outside your core competence.

• Strong attention to detail.

• Good presentation skills.

Preferred

• Education to postgraduate level and/or practical experience of living, working, and travelling throughout North America, Central America and/or the Caribbean

• Prior experience of, knowledge of or interest in the Central American or Caribbean region in particular is preferred
