**Workplace:** hybrid

**Department:** Hardware

## Description

Cowboy is looking for a **Senior Electronics Hardware Engineer** to lead the design, validation, and industrialization of the electronic subsystems that power our e-bikes — with a particular focus on connectivity, from communication modules (BLE, GNSS, EDGE, LTE-M, Qi) to sensor systems. You’ll own hardware design end-to-end, from schematic through certification and productization, working closely with firmware, mechanical, and supply chain teams to bring robust, connected hardware to riders at scale.
Experience with e-bike powertrains — BLDC motor systems and battery management systems — is a strong plus, as is hands-on experience navigating CE, RED, and other electronics certifications.

**Key Responsibilities**

- Design and develop analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits for Cowboy’s cellular/BLE/GNSS communication modules and sensor systems, including schematics, PCB layout + antenna layout, and design reviews.
- Select components based on performance, cost, availability, reliability, and lifecycle risk.
- Drive RED, CE certification, and EMC compliance for electronic subsystems, including test preparation, lab coordination, and issue resolution. Work with test houses and notified bodies.
- Technical follow-up of Asian suppliers doing outsourced development projects
- Validate hardware through bench testing, system integration, environmental and reliability testing, and field trials to confirm compliance with design specs.
- Bring up prototypes, troubleshoot hardware issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate with EMS partners and component suppliers on manufacturing qualification and transfer.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical input on system architecture, risk assessment, and design trade-offs.
- Maintain schematics, test reports, BOMs, qualification records, and engineering change documentation.
- Analyze test results and recommend design improvements for performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
- Work with the firmware team on embedded hardware and software co-design and integration.
- Implementing new powertrain systems onto ebikes (Battery management systems, BLDC motor, motor controller, torque sensors, …)

## Requirements

**Must haves**

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5-7 years of experience in electronic hardware design and development, ideally in automotive or e-mobility.
- Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design principles.
- Strong, in-depth understanding of BLDC motors and control systems
- Understanding of the BMSs and battery protection mechanisms
- Experience with radio technologies such as BLE 4.0, EDGE, LTE-M, GNSS, Qi 1.2.4/Qi2.0
- Experience creating schematics and PCB LGA/BGA layouts
- Experience in antenna placement within complex 3D environments
- Strong proficiency with Altium Designer
- Hands-on experience and willingness to manually assemble PCBs with solder paste and a reflow oven
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment: Vector Network Analyser, Oscilloscope, and logic analyser
- Experience with RED, EMC, and CE testing and certification processes.
- Strong hardware debugging, troubleshooting, and validation and verification skills.
- Able to manage multiple tasks, working both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.

**Nice to Have**

- Experience with Nordic chips, and/or uBlox modules
- Experience with CANopen is a plus
- Experience with dynamic powertrain control systems
- Experience with battery-powered low-power systems
- Familiarity with EMS and manufacturing partner qualification processes.
- Experience with C++ and ZephyrOS

## Benefits

**Benefits**

- 30 days holidays (20 legal + 10 extra legal at prorata ofc)
- 200 eur net allowance (office set up/internet)
- 10 eur/net per working day meal allowance (+/- 200 eur/month if 20 days worked)
