## Description

**Our Why**

Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow

**About the Role**

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the platforms and automation practices that underpin our technology ecosystems. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of core infrastructure, spanning containerisation, cloud, identity and access management, and infrastructure as code, while setting the engineering standards the broader team works toward.

This is a deeply technical role, but one that equally demands strong communication and consultative skills. You will work closely with stakeholders to understand their business challenges, translating complex technical concepts into meaningful outcomes, and contributing to the broader technology roadmap. You will bring an automation-first mindset to everything you do, identifying opportunities to eliminate manual effort and improve reliability across the full software delivery lifecycle.

If you are a seasoned platform engineer who thrives at the intersection of deep technical expertise and collaborative leadership, and who is energised by solving real problems through smart, scalable engineering, this role is for you.

**What you’ll do**

- Leading and embedding an automation first culture across platform engineering practices to drive operational efficiency and enhance customer outcomes.
- Designing, implementing, and governing core infrastructure and platform services across cloud, containerisation, and hybrid environments.
- Informing and contributing to architectural decisions, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with both business and technical requirements.
- Leading the design and continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines, build engineering, release engineering, configuration management, and environment management practices.
- Researching emerging technology trends and assessing their applicability to the business, feeding insights into the technology roadmap.
- Developing internal tooling and automating processes wherever possible, leveraging infrastructure as code and modern DevSecOps practices.
- Providing technical support and expertise, test new solutions, respond to feedback, and actively participate in future technology road mapping as well as maintain & support current solutions.
- Establishing and policing standards for the group's code repositories, ensuring consistency and quality across all platform engineering deliverables.
- Mentoring and uplifting Platform Engineers within the group, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Participate in on-call rotations to provide support for production systems.
- Working autonomously to resolve complex, ambiguous problems across diverse technical domains.
- Leveraging AI-augmented workflows to increase productivity and quality across engineering activities.
- Ensuring security best practices are embedded throughout platform engineering processes.

**What you’ll bring:**

- 7+ years of platform engineering experience
- Hands-on experience across the full SDLC with DevSecOps practices
- Proven experience delivering and deploying across varying project methodologies and governance frameworks
- Proficient use of AI-augmented workflows to increase productivity while maintaining quality
- Strong computing fundamentals: Networking, Cloud, Databases, Distributed systems
- Automation-first mindset with strong algorithmic/systems thinking
- Comprehensive understanding of Linux and Windows server platforms
- Deep understanding of containerization and Kubernetes — concepts, design, and operations
- Understanding of IAM (identity access management) and secrets management (acute understanding on how this fits into the Kubernetes and traditional infrastructure ecosystem.)
- Understanding of scripting languages: PowerShell, Bash, Python
- Thorough understanding of Infrastructure as Code concepts (Terraform)
- Experience with AI agent design and orchestration.
