**Workplace:** on_site

**Department:** 6. Tutoring

## Description

**Summer School Tutors (Engineering, Law, Psychology)**

**Location:** Singapore **Format:** In person, small-group teaching **Contract:** Fixed-term / seasonal

We are seeking exceptional **Summer School Tutors** in **Engineering, Law, and Psychology** to teach a highly selective cohort of ambitious international students aged **15–18** in Singapore.

This is a role for academically distinguished, intellectually serious educators who can combine subject mastery with clarity, warmth, and discussion-led teaching. We are not simply looking for classroom cover or generic tutoring experience. We are looking for candidates with the scholarly depth, academic credibility, and teaching judgment to engage high-achieving pre-university students in a rigorous summer-school setting.

The strongest candidates will typically be **current PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, research fellows, lecturers, or early-career academics** with clear evidence of teaching, tutoring, seminar leadership, mentoring, or workshop facilitation.

**Programme dates**

- **Engineering Tutor:** 29 June–17 July
- **Law Tutor:** 13–24 July
- **Psychology Tutor:** 13–24 July

**The opportunity** You will teach small groups of motivated students who are curious, articulate, and eager to engage seriously with university-level ideas before applying to higher education. The format is intentionally interactive: discussion-led, intellectually ambitious, and designed to stretch strong students rather than simply instruct them.

This is an opportunity to work with learners who respond to depth, challenge, and genuine academic enthusiasm — and to contribute to a premium summer-school experience in which quality of teaching matters as much as quality of content.

**What you’ll do**

- Lead **small-group, discussion-led** classes for high-achieving students aged 15–18
- Translate advanced concepts in **Engineering, Law, or Psychology** into teaching that is rigorous, accessible, and engaging
- Use case discussion, structured debate, practical examples, and guided analysis rather than one-way delivery alone
- Support students with academic guidance, intellectual confidence-building, and close attention to classroom participation
- Create a learning environment that is serious, welcoming, and responsive to students from diverse international backgrounds
- Contribute to a high-standard, premium pre-university programme in Singapore

## Requirements

**Who we’re looking for** We would be especially interested in candidates who bring:

- Strong academic depth in **Engineering**, **Law**, or **Psychology**
- A **current PhD / doctoral candidature**, or a **recent doctorate** with clear ongoing academic or research engagement
- Credible evidence of **teaching, tutoring, lecturing, seminar/tutorial leadership, mentoring, supervision, or workshop facilitation**
- The intellectual confidence to teach ambitious students without becoming inaccessible or overly specialised
- A naturally interactive teaching style suited to **small-group, discussion-led** learning
- Availability to teach **in person in Singapore** during the relevant programme dates

**Particularly strong profiles may include**

- Candidates from leading universities such as **NUS, NTU, SUTD, SMU**, or internationally recognised institutions including the **Ivy League, Stanford, MIT, Oxford, Cambridge, or UCL**
- Teaching assistant or graduate teaching experience in selective academic environments
- Experience mentoring, supervising, or guiding high-performing students
- Evidence of public academic communication or the ability to make difficult ideas compelling without diluting rigor
- Research or teaching interests that translate well into engaging pre-university learning

**You may be a strong fit if you are currently a**

- PhD candidate
- Postdoctoral researcher
- Research fellow
- Lecturer
- Early-career academic
- Subject specialist with recent high-level academic and student-facing teaching experience

**This role is less likely to suit candidates who are**

- Generic tutors without strong academic depth
- Strong researchers with little or no evidence of teaching or mentoring
- Focused mainly on executive education, corporate training, or professional audiences
- Too narrowly specialised to engage broad, high-ability pre-university learners
- Unlikely to be practically available in Singapore for the programme dates

## Benefits

**Why this role is distinctive**

- You will teach a selective group of motivated students in a serious academic setting
- You will work in a format that values discussion, intellectual curiosity, and close student engagement
- You will help shape how exceptional students encounter **Engineering, Law, or Psychology** before university
- You will join a programme that prioritises both academic excellence and teaching quality

**Application guidance** Please highlight:

- Your subject area expertise
- Your current academic or research stage
- Your teaching, tutoring, seminar, workshop, or mentoring experience
- Your availability for the programme dates
- Your current location and ability to teach in person in Singapore

**Equal opportunity** We welcome applications from candidates of diverse backgrounds who can contribute to an inclusive, high-performing academic environment.
