The European AI & Society Fund exists to empower a diverse and resilient ecosystem of civil society organisations to shape policy around Artificial Intelligence and to galvanise the philanthropic sector to sustain this vital work.
The development, use and regulation of Artificial Intelligence is largely shaped by the interests of governments and the tech industry without adequate concern for the needs of the individuals and communities it affects. This entrenches existing power imbalances and leads to AI that can exacerbate social injustice, amplify structural inequalities, infringe people’s rights, undermine democracy and compromise climate action. It is now a critical time in the development of policies that will set the direction of AI in Europe over the long term. Civil society organisations need to be an active and effective partner in these initiatives so that AI serves the needs of people and society.
A remarkable alliance of philanthropic organisations has come together to tackle these challenges collectively through the European AI & Society Fund. Together, we’re building momentum towards a world where AI serves the interests of people and societies, and where policies around AI champion equity, fairness and diversity as well as democracy and human rights.
