# Facilities Lead

> FAO Schwarz · New York, United States · Full-time · Posted 2026-11-05

**Salary:** USD 35,880–45,500

**Workplace:** on_site

**Department:** Store Leadership

## Description

The **Facilities Lead** keeps the flagship clean, safe, and guest-ready from the first opening routine to the final close. This is the hands-on leader of the facilities team and the on-site point of contact for the cleaning and maintenance partners who support the building.

You lead from the floor, setting the pace for the team, spotting problems before guests do, and fixing the small things yourself so they never become expensive things

**Creating the Magic**

**Lead the Environment**

- Own the standard for cleanliness and presentation across the sales floor, restrooms, offices, and team areas, so every space is guest-ready before the doors open and stays that way through peak trading.
- Keep the building safe for guests and team by controlling hazards, enforcing safe working practices, following building rules on waste disposal, and reporting incidents promptly and accurately.
- Walk the store throughout the day, catching wear, damage, and risk early so issues are resolved before a guest meets them.
- Respond quickly to spills, breakages, and guest-facing incidents, always putting the guest before the task.
- Complete light maintenance and repairs within safe, approved limits, such as patching, paint touch-ups, furniture assembly, and hanging displays and signage, so small issues are fixed in-house rather than growing into costly callouts.

**Lead the Team**

- Coach and develop the team, adapting your style to bring out the best in each person.
- Own onboarding and training for new team members, covering cleaning standards, safe use of equipment and chemicals, and store routines, so they ramp up quickly and work safely from the start.
- Hold the team to the same guest engagement standard as anyone on the floor. When your team is cleaning, they are FAO Schwarz, stopping to help, answer questions, and create moments of connection, just as any floor team member would.
- Provide regular observations and specific feedback that raise the standard of the team’s work.
- Recognize strong performance and hold the team accountable when expectations are not met, escalating people concerns when needed.
-    Work shoulder-to-shoulder with the team during demanding moments, role-modeling the pace, care, and ownership you expect.

**Run the Operation**

- Own the daily zone chart and team deployment, so coverage is clear, balanced, and follows guest traffic.
- Lead opening and closing routines, ensuring the store is clean, safe, and fully set before guests arrive and properly secured at day’s end.
- Act as the on-site point of contact for external cleaning, maintenance, and contractor teams, working to the schedule store leadership sets: brief them on scope, manage access on the day, and inspect completed work against standard, so repairs and deep cleans never interrupt the guest experience.
- Keep supplies, cleaning equipment, and tools stocked, secure, and in working order, so the team is never stalled by missing kit, and nothing is lost or replaced unnecessarily.
- Log maintenance issues with clear detail and priority, and escalate repairs beyond your scope, so the right partner acts quickly and nothing sits waiting.

**Drive Business Performance**

- Understand how a well-kept building protects the guest experience and sales: a closed restroom, a hazard on the floor, or a tired display costs guests and revenue at the busiest moments.
- Track recurring issues, repair patterns, and supply usage, turning them into recommendations that prevent repeat repairs and guest-facing disruption.
- Report vendor performance with specifics, so store leadership can judge whether the service delivered meets the standard the store expects.
- Prepare the store for sale launches, events, and floor moves with coverage and readiness in place ahead of time, so busy moments run without facilities disruption.

**Partner Across the Store**

- Collaborate with Visual, Operations, and Store Leadership teams to keep the store on-brand, safe, and aligned with daily priorities.
- Work closely with fellow Leads so the floor operates as one cohesive team, sharing knowledge and covering each other where needed.
- Build trusted relationships with building management and external partners, so issues are resolved quickly and the store is seen as a professional, reliable presence.
- Be the eyes and ears of the building, surfacing safety concerns, facility trends, and team feedback to store leadership so the right decisions get made.
- Cascade key communications across your team so they know about events, schedules, and expectations for their areas.

**What Success looks like**

You’re doing well in this role when:

- The store looks immaculate at opening and stays that way through the busiest trading days.
- Safety risks and repairs are caught early and resolved or escalated before they affect a guest or a team member.
- Small repairs are completed in house, quickly and to a high finish.
- Your team knows what’s expected, receives regular feedback, and takes real ownership of their work.
- New team members ramp up quickly, work safely, and feel supported from day one.
- Cleaning and maintenance partners arrive briefed, finish to standard, and leave the store ready for guests.
- Supplies and equipment are stocked, secure, and well looked after.

This role aligns with Level M3 in our Career Framework and reflects first-line leadership responsibility, subject-matter expertise in store operations, and growing ownership of team performance and delivery. It provides a strong foundation for progression into Assistant Manager roles (Level M4).
