## Description

The Accounting Lead will serve as the technical accounting expert for the Mexico accounting team, supporting the Controller in maintaining accurate financial reporting and strengthening accounting operations. This role is responsible for leading complex accounting activities, reviewing the work of other accountants, identifying accounting risks, and ensuring compliance with US GAAP.

Unlike a traditional people manager role, this position is primarily focused on technical accounting excellence. The successful candidate will act as the team's accounting subject matter expert while providing day-to-day guidance and support to junior accounting staff

**Key Responsabilities:**

### Technical Accounting

-   Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process.
-   Review complex journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
-   Ensure compliance with US GAAP and company accounting policies.
-   Perform detailed balance sheet and P&L reviews.
-   Review accruals, prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, fixed assets, intercompany transactions, and revenue recognition.
-   Identify accounting errors before financial statements are finalized.
-   Investigate variances and unusual accounting activity.
-   Prepare and review account reconciliations with complete supporting documentation.
-   Support external and internal audits.

### Leadership

-   Serve as the primary technical accounting resource for the Mexico accounting team.
-   Review work prepared by Staff and Senior Accountants.
-   Coach team members on accounting concepts and best practices.
-   Provide guidance during the month-end close process.
-   Promote accountability, ownership, and strong accounting controls.
-   Escalate material accounting issues and reporting risks proactively.

### Process Improvement

-   Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes and internal controls.
-   Standardize reconciliations and month-end close procedures.
-   Improve documentation and audit readiness.
-   Recommend solutions for recurring accounting issues.
-   Partner closely with the Controller on process improvements.

## Requirements

-   Bachelor's Degree in Public Accounting.
-   Active Professional License (Cédula Profesional).
-   8–15+ years of progressive accounting experience.
-   Strong full-cycle accounting experience.
-   Extensive month-end close experience.
-   Advanced US GAAP knowledge.
-   Strong balance sheet reconciliation experience.
-   Advanced accrual accounting knowledge.
-   Experience reviewing and correcting journal entries.
-   Experience identifying accounting risks before financial reporting.
-   Experience mentoring or supervising accounting staff.
-   Advanced Excel.
-   Professional English communication skills.

### Preferred Qualifications

-   Previous experience in a small public accounting firm.
-   Property accounting experience.
-   Yardi experience.
-   ERP experience (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, etc.).
-   Experience supporting U.S. companies.
-   Experience participating in external audits.
