### **About Us**

We are Friends From The City, a design and technology company focused on public impact and equity. We believe that inclusive design and accessible technology are essential to a just society. Every person we hire brings a distinct perspective, and we celebrate that.

Our mission is to make digital interactions with the government simple, intuitive, and accessible. That means removing barriers like confusing user flows, inaccessible content, or language limitations that prevent people from getting what they need.

We use human-centered design, thoughtful research, and well-crafted, reliable code to build digital products that work for everyone.

### **
About the Role**

People rely on digital government services to apply for benefits, update records, and access essential support. But even the best-designed applications can fail if they aren’t stable, secure, or easy to maintain. Behind every successful service is strong infrastructure that keeps everything running smoothly.

As a **Senior Infrastructure Engineer at Friends,** you will help build and maintain that foundation. You will design infrastructure, automate deployments, and support secure, scalable environments for civic tech teams. Your work will ensure the systems we build are not just functional, but resilient, auditable, and ready to serve the public at scale.

## Requirements

**What you'll achieve:
**In this role, you will help civic tech teams deploy and maintain reliable, compliant, and scalable infrastructure. Your work will ensure that digital public services are stable, secure, and easy to update.

You will:

- Design, build, and maintain Azure cloud infrastructure, including network integrations and hybrid on-prem connectivity
- Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, integrated with Azure
- Manage infrastructure as code using Terraform or OpenTofu
- Implement and maintain security controls including AD/RBAC, encryption at rest and in transit, and firewall configuration
- Support disaster recovery planning, monitoring, and compliance, including System Security Plan (SSP) documentation
- Work with engineering and product teams to keep delivery fast, stable, and secure

**Skills You’ll Need to Bring:
**We are looking for a systems thinker with strong infrastructure skills and a passion for mission-driven work. The ideal candidate brings a mix of the following:

- 5 or more years of experience in infrastructure, DevOps, or platform engineering
- Strong experience with Azure, including networking setup and maintenance
- Experience managing identity and access with Active Directory / RBAC
- CI/CD setup and maintenance (GitHub Actions) with Azure integration
- Infrastructure as code with Terraform and/or OpenTofu
- Docker and containerization
- Working knowledge of encryption at rest/in transit and firewall configuration for on-prem and cloud connections
- Experience supporting security compliance processes, including System Security Plans (SSPs)

**Nice To Haves:
**These are not required, but we would love to know if you have:

- ExpressRoute experience
- Experience working with government systems or civic tech projects
- Familiarity with security authorization frameworks (NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, or state equivalents)
- Comfort supporting production systems and incident response

**Education & Experience:**

- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline or equivalent experience. 5-7 years of relevant experience preferred. Whether or not you check every box, we encourage you to apply if the role and mission excite you.
