The West Virginia Food & Farm Coalition is building the local food and agriculture system in West Virginia in a way that provides viable incomes for farmers and local food businesses and ensures all residents have access to local food. Farmers and local food and agriculture businesses are at the heart and soul of the local food movement; the Coalition seeks to first hear their voices and serve those who are fundamental to building resilient and robust food systems.

**About You:** 

-   Have significant experience managing federally funded grant programs and understand the compliance and reporting demands that come with them. 
-   Have deep experience organizing programs through logic models, and can spot overlaps across multiple grants to build activities, deliverables, metrics, and outcomes into a single, linear framework. 
-   Can translate complex, multi-grant work into clear implementation plans and Gantt charts that give staff a straightforward path to follow. 
-   Have supervised multiple staff and are skilled at building systems, setting deadlines, and holding a team accountable to them. 
-   Can lead a team and push them to think strategically about program implementation and critically analyze the activities and tasks needed to implement programs well.

**About the Position:** 

The Deputy Director will oversee program implementation at WVFFC, ensuring outcomes, outputs, deliverables, and metrics are achieved and accurately reported across five programs: SNAP, Stretch, Youth Entrepreneurship and Education, Value Added Products, and the Rural Grocer Network. This position supervises the staff working within these programs and reports directly to the Executive Director. 

This role is suited to an experienced program management professional who thinks in logic models, can identify overlap across multiple grants, and can translate that into clear, linear work plans for staff. The ideal candidate has significant experience with federally funded grant management, can lead and coach a team, and holds staff accountable to deadlines and metrics without losing sight of the staff experience that keeps people successful and engaged in their work.

## Requirements

**Position Responsibilities:** 

-   Program Implementation 

-   Ensure outcomes, deliverables, metrics, and activities are communicated clearly to staff across all supervised programs. 
-   Develop clear implementation plans and associated Gantt charts to ensure planning occurs across all programs. 

-   Outcome & Deliverables Management 

-   Ensure staff are achieving deliverables on schedule and that all necessary metrics reporting occurs and is validated. 
-   Design appropriate metrics reporting systems for each program. 

-   Staff Supervision 

-   Manage, coach, and hold weekly one-on-one meetings with supervised staff. ○ Develop and manage professional development opportunities and other support staff need to succeed in their roles and remain engaged at WVFFC. 

-   Communication with the Executive Director 

-   Communicate program needs to the Executive Director through a weekly meeting structure, including metrics dashboard updates and anecdotal program stories. 

-   Grant Reporting Management 

-   Manage the calendar of grant reporting deadlines, assigning reporting tasks to staff in a timely manner and assigning staff their own writing roles and reviewing work for compliance and accuracy. 

-   Procurement 

-   Manage purchase order requests from supervised staff, verifying that expenses are necessary, available in the budget, and have followed required procurement processes. 

-   Systems & Platform Development

-   Assist the Executive Director in developing an online platform for program and grant management. 
-   Manage a metrics dashboard for all organizational projects and programs. 

**Qualifications:** 

-   Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. 
-   5+ years of experience in nonprofit program management. 
-   Significant experience managing federally funded grant programs. 
-   Demonstrated experience using logic models to organize program activities, deliverables, metrics, and outcomes across multiple grants. 
-   Experience developing Gantt charts and implementation plans for staff-facing work plans. 
-   Experience supervising multiple staff, including coaching and performance management.
-   Experience managing budgets, purchase orders, and procurement processes.
-   Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience translating program data for an Executive Director, Board, or funders.

**Selection Schedule:** 

-   Initial Interviews will be conducted via phone/teleconference, and will begin immediately for qualified applicants
-   Second interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis until the right candidate is identified

**Benefits Compensation:** 

-   Position is full-time, salary exempt at 36 hours per week. WVFFC’s team operates both remotely and from our Charleston, WV office; Charleston-based candidates are preferred.
