## Description

**INTERNAL/EXTERNAL CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF AN INTERN (M/F) FOR THE FOREST, ENVIRONMENT, AND CLIMATE II PROJECT (GIZ/PROFEC II) OF THE DEUTSCHE GESELLSCHAFT FÜR INTERNATIONALE ZUSAMMENARBEIT GmbH, BASED IN YAOUNDE.**

**A.    GENERAL CONTEXT**

The GIZ module “Promotion of Forests, Environment and Climate II (ProFEC II)” supports Cameroon’s transition to sustainable, lawful and inclusive forest and timber sector governance. The project works with MINFOF and MINEPDED and strengthens:

-   Instruments for legally compliant, inclusive and gender-responsive forest management (including digital timber traceability/legal assurance in line with EUDR/CITES, and support to the national forest inventory concept);
-   Networking and upgrading of value chains for timber, wood residues and selected NWFPs (e.g., Djangsang, wild mango), including women-led MSMEs and private sector dialogue;
-   Legal and financial planning conditions to mobilize climate and biodiversity finance (e.g., data for NDC-related funding, communal finance transparency tools such as SIM\_Ba, and mangrove protection scoping).

As part of its activities of its activities, POFEC II is recruiting an **intern (M/F)** based in **Yaoundé**.

 Focus areas of the internship:

-   Sustainable Forest Management (SFM);
-   Participatory management of community forests;
-   Sustainable timber and non-wood forest product (NWFP) value chains;
-   Digital traceability and legality systems (e.g. SIGIF II);
-   Climate/biodiversity finance readiness

**B.    CORE TASKS**

 **Technical support on SFM and inclusive community/communal forest management:**

-   Desk research on Cameroonian forest policy and 2024 forest law implementation, FPIC/biocultural protocols, local governance and gender-inclusive participation;
-   Assist with preparation/documentation of workshops, stakeholder mapping, and drafting community-level internal rules concepts (inclusive, gender-responsive);

**Sustainable value chains and due diligence**:

-   Contribute to analyses on legality and sustainability requirements (EUDR/CITES) for timber/NWFP supply chains; compile KPIs and simple risk profiles;
-   Support documentation on wood residue valorization options (e.g., furniture/ parquet, briquettes/charcoal, energy from gasification) and women-led MSME support.

**Digital traceability and data:**

-   Support requirement gathering, process mapping and user documentation related to timber traceability/legal assurance systems (e.g., SIGIF II) and data flows for monitoring/verification.

**Climate/biodiversity finance and communal transparency:**

-   Assist in compiling and structuring data on potential domestic/external finance for NDC implementation in the forest sector; support materials on communal revenue/expenditure transparency tools (e.g., SIM\_Ba).

**Knowledge products and project support:**

-   Draft briefs, PPTs, and summaries in English and French; support event logistics; take minutes; contribute to monitoring (indicators, results stories); ensure do-no-harm, gender and inclusion considerations are reflected.

## Requirements

**C.   REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**

To carry out these activities, the incumbent must have the following qualifications: 

-   Enrolled master’s student (preferred) or advanced Bachelor student in forestry, environmental/natural resource management, geography, environmental economics, public policy, development studies, or related;
-   Knowledge in at least two of the following: SFM/forest governance; community-based natural resource management; timber/NWFP value chains and due diligence (incl. EUDR, CITES); digital traceability/IT for value chains; gender and inclusion in natural resource governance; basic climate/biodiversity finance concepts; GIS/remote sensing is an asset;
-   Strong analytical and writing skills; ability to synthesize policy and technical topics succinctly;
-   Confident user of MS Office; assets include Excel/Power BI, basic data handling, GIS (QGIS/ArcGIS) and/or documenting IT processes;
-   Team-oriented, proactive, organized; able to work in intercultural and field contexts;
-   Languages: Excellent English and very good French required; local language skills (e.g., in project regions) are an asset.

**Eligibility and conditions**

-   ·National internship for students/recent graduates in Cameroon; internship should be part of studies or linked to graduation requirements (please state if mandatory).
-   Work modality: Yaoundé-based with possible missions to Centre/East regions; flexible/hybrid arrangements as per project needs and security guidance.
