**Position Overview:**

The **Medical Support Assistant** provides front-line administrative and customer service support within a clinical research hospital environment. This role supports patient admissions, appointment scheduling, reception services, and coordination of patient services while ensuring confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with NIH policies.

**Key Responsibilities:**

-   Provide in-person and telephone customer service to patients, families, and clinical staff
-   Register and admit patients; update demographic information in electronic medical record systems
-   Schedule, cancel, and manage patient appointments
-   Monitor patient wait times and communicate delays appropriately
-   Create and process patient travel vouchers and reimbursement documentation
-   Maintain reception areas, issue patient ID wristbands, and respond to medical emergencies per guidelines
-   Maintain strict patient confidentiality and Privacy Act compliance
-   Support inpatient and outpatient care areas
-   Float between Patient Support Services Department units as needed
-   Maintain professional appearance and adhere to NIH dress code
-   Comply with attendance, punctuality, and conduct standards

## Requirements

**Qualifications:**

-   **Job qualifications & certifications:**

-   High School Diploma or GED (required)
-   NIH-required infectious disease documentation (measles, TB, influenza, etc.)
-   Completion of mandatory NIH training within 30 days of start
-   Ability to obtain and maintain NIH ID badge

-   **Skills:**

-   Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
