## Description

**Role Overview**

We are looking for a highly experienced MongoDB Database Administrator to own the design, performance, security, and reliability of our MongoDB estate. This role requires deep hands-on expertise across replica sets, sharded clusters, backup/restore, and performance tuning, with the judgment to make architectural decisions independently and troubleshoot production issues under pressure.

**Key Responsibilities**

-   Administer, monitor, and maintain MongoDB environments across development, staging, and production
-   Design and manage ReplicaSet and Sharded Cluster architectures for high availability and horizontal scalability
-   Own backup and restore strategy and execution, ensuring recoverability meets business RPO/RTO requirements
-   Plan and execute database patching, version upgrades, and migrations with minimal downtime
-   Manage and optimize deployments using MongoDB Ops Manager
-   Perform performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning across the MongoDB fleet
-   Write and troubleshoot Mongo Query Language (MQL) for diagnostics and optimization
-   Administer underlying Unix/Linux infrastructure supporting MongoDB workloads
-   Work within Agile delivery teams, participating in sprints, planning, and incident retrospectives
-   Support automation initiatives using tools such as Ansible, Jenkins, or Terraform
-   Script routine operational tasks using Bash or Python
-   Provide input and support on other database platforms as needed

**Essential Requirements**

-   Excellent knowledge of MongoDB database administration
-   Excellent knowledge of MongoDB architecture and internals
-   Excellent knowledge of ReplicaSet cluster configuration and management
-   Excellent knowledge of MongoDB Sharding
-   Excellent knowledge of Ops Manager
-   Excellent knowledge of MongoDB backup and restore mechanisms
-   Excellent knowledge of database patching and upgrades
-   Excellent knowledge of performance tuning
-   Excellent knowledge of database migration
-   Good knowledge of MongoDB Query Language (MQL)
-   Good knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems
-   Good knowledge of Agile working practices

**Desirable Requirements**

-   Good knowledge of modern automation technologies (Ansible, Jenkins, Terraform)
-   Good knowledge of scripting (Bash, Python)
-   Good knowledge of other database platforms
