## Description

### About the Job

AOA is hiring a Senior Frontend Engineer to build polished, high-performing storefronts for ambitious eCommerce brands, and to be the technical lead for our Shopify work. You will turn thoughtful designs and product direction into production-ready commerce experiences, bringing the care, judgment, and craft that make a storefront fast, reliable, and easy to buy from.

This is a senior role for someone who enjoys ownership, but not isolation. We keep specifications lean because we trust strong engineers to think deeply, ask good questions, and shape the technical path forward. You will break product-level goals into clear engineering work, make sound implementation decisions, and own the details a great storefront needs, across both modern headless builds and classic Shopify.

As our Shopify technical lead, you will set the standard for how we build on Shopify, review and oversee Shopify work across the agency, and be the person the team relies on for the platform. You will work across a portfolio of client projects, partnering with designers, product leads, backend engineers, and client-facing teammates to move work forward with clarity and care. As an AI-native agency, we use modern AI coding tools and agents to increase speed, quality, and focus, while keeping strong human judgment at the center of the final product.

You may be a strong fit if you are a senior frontend engineer with deep React and Shopify experience, you take pride in excellent storefronts, you enjoy turning ambiguity into thoughtful implementation, you communicate clearly, and you want to do high-quality work with a close-knit team that cares deeply about client outcomes.

### Role Details

- Compensation: $5,000 USD per month
- Engagement: Contract (independent contractor)
- Location: Remote, based in Latin America
- Schedule: Available during standard business hours in US Central Time, for strong overlap with the team
- Reports to: Engineering Manager

### About AOA

AOA is a growing digital design and development agency that creates high-impact websites, standout eCommerce experiences, and AI-native apps for ambitious modern brands.

We partner closely with eCommerce and SaaS companies to deliver thoughtful, polished work that drives meaningful results and lasting client success. Our work spans strategy, design, development, eCommerce, conversion optimization, and custom application development.

We are a close-knit team where every person has a direct, visible impact on our clients' success and the growth of the company. We value genuine relationships, high standards, ownership, clear communication, and a true commitment to client delight.

As an AI-native agency, we use modern tools to enhance the quality, speed, and clarity of our work, while keeping human judgment, creativity, and relationships at the center.

### Responsibilities

- Key Outcome: Deliver high-quality, high-performing eCommerce frontend experiences that AOA is known for, with predictability, agentic-efficiency, and collaborative ownership.
- Build production-grade storefronts in React and modern headless commerce frameworks such as Shopify Hydrogen.
- Develop and customize classic Shopify: Liquid themes, apps, Checkout Extensions, and store configuration.
- Serve as AOA's Shopify technical lead: set the Shopify standard, review and oversee Shopify work, and be the platform authority the team relies on.
- Lead Shopify migrations and establish CI/CD and deployment pipelines for themes and apps.
- Turn product-level objectives into clear, actionable engineering tasks and own the technical approach.
- Translate Figma designs into reusable storefront components and design-system primitives that help the team ship faster.
- Connect storefronts to commerce and content APIs, handling variants, inventory, pricing, loading, errors, empty states, and partial data.
- Plan and sequence your work across multiple client projects, bringing recommendations rather than open-ended problems.
- Write tested, maintainable TypeScript that follows each client codebase's conventions.
- Self-review your work and catch issues before QA, with particular care on revenue-bearing flows.
- Conduct code reviews and hold the bar on quality across the work you review.
- Use AI coding tools and agents thoughtfully while keeping engineering judgment in control.
- Communicate proactively across a remote team, sharing progress and surfacing risks early.

### Qualifications

- 5+ years building production frontend applications, with deep, current React and TypeScript expertise.
- 4+ years building and owning Shopify experience across classic and headless builds.
- Prior experience working in an agency environment and as an independent contractor, with the ability to manage multiple clients or projects in parallel.
- Strong experience on enterprise-grade accounts, products, or projects.
- Strong experience in Liquid theme development (Online Store 2.0), Shopify apps, Checkout Extensions, store configuration, and migrations.
- Experience as the senior technical authority on Shopify: setting the standard, reviewing and overseeing others' Shopify work, and owning CI/CD and version control for themes or apps.
- A track record of owning storefront features end-to-end, from ambiguous requirements to production.
- Strong frontend fundamentals: semantic HTML, modern CSS, responsive design, accessibility, and browser behavior.
- Experience translating Figma designs into accurate, responsive, accessible interfaces.
- Experience integrating REST or GraphQL APIs (Storefront API or similar) and managing client and server state, including cart.
- A strong quality discipline: typed, tested code and self-review before QA.
- Ability to estimate your work, commit within a delivery cycle, and reliably deliver.
- Excellent professional English, spoken and written, with reliable overlap with standard US Central Time business hours.
- Fluent, practical use of AI coding tools as part of your engineering workflow.
- Based in Latin America and able to work as an independent contractor.

### Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with other headless commerce stacks (such as commercetools or BigCommerce) or with SaaS and B2B product frontends in Next.js, in addition to Shopify.
- Experience building or maintaining a design system or component library used across multiple storefronts or products.
- Familiarity with frontend testing and CI tooling, such as Playwright, Vitest or Jest, and Testing Library.
- Experience with conversion optimization, A/B testing, or analytics instrumentation on commerce sites.
- Experience working in a points-based or sprint-based delivery model.
- A portfolio, GitHub, or code samples you can share.

You do not need to check every single box to apply. We know strong engineers bring the right experience in different ways. If you build excellent storefronts in React and Shopify, take real ownership of your work, and want to lead Shopify at an AI-native agency, we would love to hear from you.
