**Job Role:** Civil Estimator

**Compensation range:** $2,000 AUD - $2,500 AUD / Monthly

**Engagement type:** Independent Contractor Agreement

**Work Schedule:** This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

**Who The Client Is:** Our client is a Western Australian civil construction business delivering civil works across metropolitan and regional Western Australia, including the Kimberley region. With a strong reputation for quality delivery, the business partners with clients on a range of civil infrastructure projects and is continuing to grow. 

**Role Overview:** As the Civil Estimator, you'll play a key role in securing new work by preparing accurate, commercially sound tender submissions for civil construction projects. You'll review tender documentation, complete quantity take-offs, source supplier and subcontractor pricing, and develop detailed cost estimates that support successful bids.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a strong background in Australian civil construction estimating who enjoys working independently and takes pride in producing high-quality, well-considered tender submissions.

**Key Responsibilities:** 

Tendering & Project Analysis

-   Review tender documentation, engineering drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
-   Analyze project scope, commercial risks, exclusions, and opportunities before pricing.
-   Prepare tender clarifications and ensure all submissions comply with client requirements.
-   Develop competitive tender submissions within required deadlines.

Estimating & Quantity Take-Offs

-   Complete accurate quantity take-offs from engineering drawings and project documentation.
-   Prepare detailed cost estimates covering labour, plant, materials, subcontractors, transport, and project overheads.
-   Build and maintain estimate worksheets and pricing models using historical cost data where appropriate.
-   Validate pricing assumptions to ensure estimates remain commercially competitive.

Supplier & Subcontractor Management

-   Source and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
-   Negotiate pricing where appropriate to maximize tender competitiveness.
-   Maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to support future tenders.

Commercial Support

-   Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options during the estimating process.
-   Assess project risks and recommend appropriate pricing allowances and contingencies.
-   Support pricing updates, tender revisions, and post-tender clarifications where required.
-   Assist with project handovers to operations following successful tenders.

Continuous Improvement

-   Maintain estimating records and historical pricing databases.
-   Review completed projects against estimated costs to improve future estimate accuracy.
-   Contribute ideas to improve estimating processes and tender quality.

## Requirements

**Required Skills and Qualifications:**

-   2+ years of experience as a Civil Estimator within the Australian civil construction industry.
-   Demonstrated experience preparing end-to-end civil tenders independently.
-   Strong understanding of Australian civil construction methodologies and estimating practices.
-   Proven experience completing detailed quantity take-offs from engineering drawings.
-   Ability to interpret civil drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and tender documentation.
-   Strong commercial acumen with the ability to assess project risks and pricing strategies.
-   Experience obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations.
-   Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
-   Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
-   Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
-   Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
-   Ability to work autonomously in a fully remote environment.

**Nice to have:**

-   Experience using civil estimating software (such as Expert Estimation, Benchmark, Candy, CostX, Cubit, Buildsoft, or similar) is highly regarded.
-   Experience estimating projects across roads, earthworks, drainage, subdivisions, or other civil infrastructure works.
-   Knowledge of Western Australian civil construction practices and supplier networks.
-   Experience working remotely with Australian construction businesses.
