This position is full time, 12 months and reports to the Director of Facilities. The preferred schedule is 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; however, the School is open to discussing a later eight-hour shift with a qualified candidate.

## Requirements

The Facilities Maintenance Associate helps operate and care for Indian Creek School’s buildings, grounds, athletic and performing arts facilities, and campus infrastructure each day. The associate performs routine repairs and preventive maintenance, responds to maintenance requests using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (FMX), and prepares spaces for daily operations, school events, and facility rentals. The position also conducts safety and security checks, identifies concerns that require specialized attention, and helps keep the campus safe, clean, and ready for students, employees, families, and visitors. Success in this role requires initiative, sound judgment, and flexibility as campus needs change throughout the day. 

This position works around students during the school day. The associate must maintain appropriate professional boundaries, follow school policies on student safety and conduct, and arrange work so that tools, chemicals, and active work areas are secured and instruction is disrupted as little as possible. The employee must complete required school training and follow applicable Maryland reporting obligations.  Indian Creek School welcomes candidates who will contribute to an inclusive and respectful school community.

Primary Responsibilities 

Buildings and work orders 

-   Check spaces, doors, and entry points at the start of the day and throughout the shift; correct routine issues, make hazards safe when possible, and report safety or security concerns promptly. 

-   Perform minor carpentry, patching and painting, furniture adjustments, and repairs to doors, hardware, fixtures, and basic plumbing; replace lamps, filters, and similar components. 

-   Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and use FMX to receive and prioritize work orders, record completed work, update requestors, and document follow-up needs or parts required. 

-   Assist with contractor access, site preparation, and follow-up for outside repairs as directed by the Director of Facilities. 

Events and campus safety 

-   Set up and break down tables, chairs, equipment, and spaces for assemblies, athletics, school events, and facility rentals; coordinate work around classes and the changing school calendar. 

-   Help prepare for and respond to snow, ice, severe weather, and facility emergencies; support drills and campus operations. 

-   Follow Indian Creek School standard operating procedures, recognized maintenance practices, and applicable OSHA and other safety requirements. Use tools and materials safely, secure work areas around students, and complete all required training as directed by the Director of Facilities. 

Grounds and daily operations 

-   Support the dedicated grounds crew as needed with entrances, walkways, parking areas, outdoor spaces, athletic fields, and seasonal grounds tasks, including snow and ice removal. 

-   Supplement the cleaning teams when needed, including spill response, waste and recycling removal, cleaning and sanitizing spaces, and replenishing supplies. 

-   Move and arrange classroom and office furniture, supplies, and equipment; help with receiving and placing deliveries when needed. 

Qualifications 

-   At least one year of experience in building or facilities maintenance or a related trade, or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Experience in a school or other occupied campus is a plus. 

-   Ability to work independently, prioritize competing needs, complete work to a high standard, and recognize when to seek direction or a licensed specialist. 

-   Comfortable using or quickly learning digital systems and applications, including Outlook, FMX, HVAC and lighting controls, and the school’s student information system. Able to use them to communicate, manage work orders, check calendars and other authorized information, and make building system adjustments within the scope of the role. 

-   Working knowledge of common hand and power tools and basic repairs, with the ability to follow safety information and equipment instructions. 

-   Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with clear written and verbal communication. Ability to collaborate, build positive working relationships with students, colleagues, families, visitors, and vendors, and adapt to planned and immediate needs. 

-   A valid driver’s license and ability to meet the school’s driving requirements. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. 

-   Successful completion of required federal and state background checks and the MSDE Employment History Review. 

Schedule and physical demands 

This is a 12-month, full-time hourly position for an 8-hour shift, Monday through Friday. Flexibility is required, as occasional early morning, evening, weekend, overtime, or weather-related work may be needed for events, athletics, snow removal, campus emergencies, or other operational needs. The position involves extended standing and walking; bending, kneeling, reaching, and ladder use; working indoors and outdoors in varying Maryland weather; and safely operating maintenance and grounds equipment. The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and move heavier items with assistance or equipment.

## Benefits

Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's years of experience at an educational institution, relevant experience, and overall skillset. Candidates will be offered a competitive salary, eligible for overtime, and within the range of $52,000 - $58,000 dependent on experience.   Salary will be prorated based off start date in the 2026-2027 school year.
