# Clinical AI Research Lead

> Insight Timer · Sydney, Australia (Remote) · Full-time · Posted 2026-06-02

**Workplace:** remote

## Description

We’re looking for a Clinical AI Research Lead to help shape the next generation of intelligent wellbeing experiences for Insight Timer, the world’s largest meditation and wellness community, with over 30 million users.

This is a rare role at the intersection of mental health, meditation, wellbeing science, clinical reasoning, research, and AI product development. You’ll work closely with our Head of AI, product team, engineers, and content experts to help evaluate and improve AI-generated outputs related to meditation, mental health, sleep, anxiety, stress, emotional wellbeing, and behavior change.

The role is not simply academic, clinical, or product-focused. It sits across all three. You’ll help us ensure that AI systems are grounded in sound evidence, safe clinical reasoning, and real-world user needs. That means reviewing AI outputs, evaluating the quality of evidence behind them, identifying risks and limitations, improving prompts and workflows, and helping engineers translate clinical and research insight into better product experiences.

There is also scope for this role to develop into a clearly defined internal research stream, including work on peer-reviewed publications and the broader research agenda for Insight Timer. Depending on the candidate, this could be one broad role or eventually split into multiple roles across clinical AI evaluation, research, and product development.

We’re looking for someone with strong structured thinking: someone who may not always know the answer immediately, but knows how to ask the right questions, assess evidence properly, understand indications and contraindications, and translate complex clinical or research concepts into practical product decisions.

If you’re excited by the challenge of helping build AI systems that support millions of people in living healthier, calmer, and more meaningful lives, we’d love to meet you.

### About Insight Timer

Imagine a platform which could amplify something as simple as your attendance into deep transformational shifts for humanity. A place where showing up was enough. Where each individual visit combined with millions more to trigger huge waves of health and happiness around the world. What would such a platform look like? Could you even build it? And more importantly, how would you protect it from becoming another Instagram, TikTok or Twitter which magnify the very worst of us.

If we can answer these questions, we believe Insight Timer’s community will emerge as one of the most important companies of the 21st century. A place, not a product, which is capable of reversing the modern day health pandemic by harmonising the human spirit before problems arise. And if we get there... well, the opportunities are endless. Imagine a modern-day renaissance where health, belonging and purpose become the new definitions of happiness for hundreds of millions of people around the world, including you.

And all you need to do... is show up.

### Key Responsibilities

- Review and evaluate AI-generated outputs related to meditation, wellbeing, mental health, sleep, anxiety, stress, and behavior change.
- Assess whether AI outputs are clinically appropriate, evidence-informed, safe, clear, and useful for real-world users.
- Evaluate the strength and quality of evidence behind wellbeing, meditation, and psychotherapeutic techniques, including limitations and contraindications.
- Help define frameworks for assessing indications, contraindications, risk, evidence quality, internal and external validity, and real-world applicability.
- Work with engineers and product teams to improve prompts, AI workflows, evaluations, and user-facing wellbeing experiences.
- Translate clinical, psychological, and research concepts into clear product guidance that engineers and designers can act on.
- Help build internal evaluation systems for AI outputs, including rubrics, review processes, and quality standards.
- Contribute to the development of safe, high-quality AI experiences that are grounded in meditation, wellbeing, and mental health expertise.
- Support the creation of structured content and intervention pathways across areas such as sleep, anxiety, stress, mindfulness, and emotional wellbeing.
- Help identify where AI outputs are unsupported, overstated, unsafe, unclear, or misaligned with best available evidence.
- Collaborate with internal and external researchers on studies, evidence reviews, and potential peer-reviewed publications.
- Help shape Insight Timer’s broader research agenda around meditation, wellbeing, mental health, AI, and consumer health products.

## Requirements

- You have strong clinical, psychological, behavioral science, or mental health research expertise.

- You may have a PhD, be completing a PhD, or have equivalent clinical and research experience.
- You may be an academic researcher, clinician-researcher, psychologist, psychiatrist, behavioral scientist, meditation researcher, or wellbeing researcher.
- You understand how to evaluate evidence, including study quality, internal and external validity, strength of findings, and real-world limitations.
- You can think clearly about indications, contraindications, safety, and the practical implications of wellbeing or mental health recommendations.
- You have familiarity with meditation, mindfulness, contemplative practice, psychotherapy, behavior change, or related wellbeing techniques.
- You are comfortable working with ambiguity and can bring structure to complex, cross-disciplinary problems.
- You are interested in AI and willing to work directly with prompts, model outputs, evaluation systems, and product workflows.
- You can communicate clearly with engineers, product managers, designers, researchers, and non-clinical stakeholders.
- You have strong judgment and know when something is evidence-based, speculative, overstated, risky, or simply unclear.
- You are excited by the opportunity to work on products that reach millions of people, rather than only producing internal research or academic work.
- You care deeply about helping people live healthier, calmer, and more meaningful lives.

### Nice to Have

- Experience working with AI tools, LLMs, prompt engineering, model evaluation, or AI-assisted research workflows.
- Experience publishing peer-reviewed research in psychology, mental health, meditation, mindfulness, sleep, anxiety, wellbeing, behavior change, or digital health.
- Clinical experience with anxiety, sleep, stress, emotional regulation, or related areas.
- Experience working in digital health, consumer wellbeing, mental health technology, or product-led environments.
- Experience translating research or clinical guidelines into practical interventions, programs, or user-facing experiences.
- Experience designing or evaluating digital interventions, guided programs, or structured wellbeing pathways.
- A strong understanding of both academic evidence and the messy realities of how people use consumer products in the real world.

## Benefits

- We offer competitive salaries and options.
- The role is fully remote, but you must be based in Australia.
- Extra leave days are available for your well-being and birthday.
- A generous L&D budget and wellbeing bonus.
- We host a global company retreat every other year.
