# Vice President of Risk Intelligence - Logistics and Transportation

> Keller Executive Search · United States (Remote) · Full-time · Posted 2026-06-18

**Salary:** USD 240,000–280,000

**Workplace:** remote

**Department:** LinkedIn

## Description

A specialist insurance business is hiring a Vice President to launch and lead a new Risk Intelligence function. The company is a focused underwriting unit inside a larger global insurance platform. It writes coverage for freight brokers and third-party logistics providers, mostly medium and large operators, across the US and Canada. The team is small, highly specialized, and built around proprietary technology. It manages a sizable book of premium across several hundred insured clients.

This is a founding role. You will not inherit a department. You will build one.

### **About the role**

This is an operational, field-facing role, not a back-office policy job. You will:

- Work directly with insured clients to review how they actually run their business
- Assess their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and confirm they are clearly written, properly put in place, and followed in practice
- Find the gaps between what should happen and what does happen, then drive the fixes
- Tie that work to measurable results: fewer losses, fewer claims, stronger client performance
- Advise the underwriting team using what you learn in the field
- Build the Risk Intelligence department over time, with your first hire expected within about a year

### **Key responsibilities**

- Lead the Risk Intelligence function from the ground up
- Design repeatable processes, SOP audit frameworks, and an enterprise risk management (ERM) approach the company can scale
- Conduct client reviews and operational assessments, mostly by video call, some on site
- Check how well each insured vets and onboards motor carriers (safety, financial standing, licensing, insurance) and where their compliance checklists break down
- Give clients clear, practical recommendations to tighten safety and compliance
- Partner with underwriting to sharpen risk selection, and with claims to spot loss trends and prevent repeat losses
- Act as a trusted advisor who raises the operational maturity of the clients you serve
- Help define how the department and team grow over the next several years

## Requirements

### **Essential**

- 15-plus years of hands-on experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain operations, at the enterprise risk level
- Deep, practical knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) design and rollout, motor carrier vetting and onboarding, risk management and loss control as well as contractual liability and exposure management
- A track record of building process frameworks and risk structures, not just running existing ones
- Comfort working directly with clients and executives, with the credibility to drive change
- Ability to manage many clients at once and keep priorities straight without constant escalation
- Analytical and data-driven decision-making
- Full professional English
- Based in the US with work authorisation, able to travel 15 to 20 percent for client visits and industry conferences

### **Preferred**

- Ability to support and advise an underwriting team with operational and risk insight
- Direct experience managing real-world risk events, such as:

- Cargo theft and security exposures
- Operational breakdowns and execution failures
- Regulatory fines and penalties
- Complex contractual disputes
- Transportation Management System (TMS) failures
- Margin compression
- Large-loss events and high-value verdicts
- Crisis response and rapid scaling

- Working knowledge of logistics management systems, carrier databases, and standard data tools (Excel or similar), plus Microsoft Outlook and Word
- Certifications in logistics, transportation, or risk management

## Benefits

- Base salary: $240,000 to $280,000 per year
- Additional annual bonus
- 22 days of paid leave
- 401(k) with retirement plan support
- Healthcare coverage
- Paid parental leave
- Wellness stipend
- Full benefits package

**Location and Travel**

- Open to location: onsite, hybrid, or fully remote for a candidate with the discipline to work independently
- US-based essential
- Travel of 15 to 20 percent
