## Description

### About KOMOJU

KOMOJU is the leading cross-border payment gateway for Japan. We power payments for companies like the video game distribution platform Steam and the popular mobile app TikTok. Today we help thousands of merchants by providing the payment infrastructure they need, from developer-friendly APIs to integrations on popular platforms like Shopify and Wix, supporting their growth in every market they expand into. We support credit card, QR, and convenience store payments, with same-day onboarding, a comprehensive dashboard, and early settlement. We are now expanding beyond online payments into in-person payments.

###
About the Marketing team

Our mission is to create, capture, and convert demand by positioning KOMOJU as the essential partner for merchants’ business growth. Marketing is a relatively new and rapidly evolving function at KOMOJU. The team has significant ownership over how the brand and its products are taken to market.

The team is small and works closely with Business Development, Product, Customer Success, and Data. This role owns the narrative for products used by thousands of merchants.

###
Role purpose

As Product Marketing Manager, you will shape how KOMOJU's products are understood in the market and act as the bridge between Product, Engineering, Marketing, and customer-facing teams. You will translate technical payment capabilities into clear business value for merchants, from local SMBs to global brands expanding in Japan. Your work will position KOMOJU as a strategic partner for growth in the Japanese market.

You will lead go-to-market for new payment methods, features, and integrations, own positioning and messaging, drive the growth of products already in market, and arm the Business Development team with the story and materials that win deals.

###
What success looks like

In your first few months, success will mean building a strong understanding of KOMOJU's products and customers, reviewing current messaging and sales materials, and identifying practical opportunities to strengthen priority products. By around six months, you should be ready to lead the marketing workstream for a product launch, use data and feedback to improve a key customer touchpoint, and establish clear messaging guidance that teams can use consistently.

###
Outcome-based scope of responsibilities

- **Own positioning and messaging.** Build and maintain the value proposition framework and Ideal Customer Profiles (ICPs) for KOMOJU's products and merchant segments, using merchant research and market evidence.

- **Drive go-to-market for launches.** Lead end-to-end GTM for new payment methods, features, and platform integrations. Define whether each release serves existing merchants, new prospects, or both, and build the strategy accordingly. For existing merchants, identify relevant segments within our base of approximately 24,000 merchants, partner with Data and customer-facing teams on outreach, and measure impact on TPV and sign-ups. For new prospects, build awareness through launch narratives, announcement and landing pages, campaign assets, and agency-supported SEO content.

- **Equip the commercial team with the story.** Translate product releases and capabilities into clear commercial implications, then build the sales decks, battlecards, competitive positioning (vs. domestic and global PSPs), and localizable playbooks that Business Development and Customer Success use to shape their sales strategies and win. You own the quality, accuracy, and persuasiveness of the story; rep training, adoption, and quota attainment sit with Sales.

- **Grow products already in market.** Identify where existing products and features are underperforming, such as funnel drop-off, unclear messaging, low awareness, pricing communication, or competitive gaps. Size the opportunity and develop a marketing plan to address it.

- **Grow product adoption.** Convert awareness into qualified demand and merchant sign-ups. Activating sign-ups into live, transacting merchants is a shared goal you support with messaging and content, owned by Sales, CS, and Product.

- **Influence product direction.** Gather competitive, merchant, and market insight and use it to influence Product and Engineering priorities, ensuring development choices connect to merchant needs and company growth goals rather than stopping at feature delivery.

- **Strengthen the brand and operational excellence.** Maintain the source of truth for our product capabilities and document strategies, decisions, processes, and results in enough detail for teams to execute consistently. Ensure all public-facing information on payment methods and integrations is accurate, localized, and optimized for conversion.

- **Lead with data.** Define success metrics for every launch and campaign, report on performance, and use results to decide what to scale and what to stop.

## Requirements

- 5+ years of experience in product marketing, or a closely related B2B marketing role (product/customer marketing, GTM, or solutions marketing).

- A track record of owning product launches end to end: positioning, messaging, launch assets, and measured business results.

- Experience improving the performance of products already in market by identifying weak areas, forming hypotheses, testing changes, and measuring improvement.

- Proven ability to translate technical capabilities into clear business value for both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Strong written and verbal storytelling skills, with the judgment to adapt the message to the audience.

- Comfortable working with data: using merchant, funnel, and campaign data to form a point of view and prove impact.

- Experience partnering with cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales/Partnerships, CS, and Data), influencing without direct authority, and translating effectively between English-speaking product teams and Japanese-speaking customer-facing teams.

- Strong project management skills; able to keep several interdependent workstreams on track.

- Fluent in Japanese and English. You will work with an English-speaking product team and Japanese-speaking partners, merchants, and customer-facing teams, creating and reviewing messaging that is natural, accurate, and authentic to KOMOJU in both languages.

###
Nice to have

- Experience in the payments, PSP, or eCommerce platform ecosystem (Shopify, Wix, EC-CUBE, etc.)
- Experience marketing to both SMB and enterprise segments.
- Working knowledge of digital marketing (SEO, SEM, paid social) and marketing automation / CRM tools (HubSpot, Salesforce).
- Competitive intelligence experience in a fast-moving market.

###
Who you are

- **Challenge the status quo.** You assess current messaging, materials, and launch processes and make practical improvements when they are underperforming.

- **Impact driven.** You focus on qualified demand, merchant sign-ups, and conversion. You adjust priorities when results show that the original plan needs to change.

- **Frontline decision-making and ownership.** You move quickly, take initiative, and use your market knowledge to make decisions on positioning and launch scope. You remain accountable for results, work hands-on across multiple disciplines, and step beyond a narrow remit when the outcome requires it.

- **Multiplier.** You create playbooks, battlecards, and clear processes that help Business Development, Customer Success, and Product work more effectively.

- **Obsession with customer value.** You clarify the merchant problem behind each request and challenge work that does not address a clear customer need.
