### About the Role

We are seeking a User Researcher to join the Cross-border UX research team supporting the Mercari Global Product rollout.

This is a hands-on, tactical research role focused on generating continuous insights to improve our global marketplace experience across multiple countries and user contexts. You’ll play a key role in planning and executing usability testing, concept evaluations, and customer feedback analysis, while also supporting research operations and helping ensure that user insights reach decision-makers quickly and effectively.

As Mercari scales globally, we are looking for someone with a strong international mindset — curious about cultural nuance, local market differences, and how user needs shift across regions. We are also looking for someone excited to work in an increasingly AI-native research environment, using AI tools thoughtfully to improve research speed, quality, synthesis, and communication.

This position is ideal for a practical, detail-oriented researcher who enjoys balancing structured UX testing with operational ownership, continuous learning, and opportunities for strategic thinking and fieldwork.

  
  
  

### Work Responsibilities

**Tactical / Applied Research**

-   Plan and execute ongoing usability tests, user interviews concept evaluations, and design validation studies to inform product decisions for Mercari’s Global App.  
      
    
-   Leverage research tools/platforms (such as UserTesting, Maze, or similar tools) to run un-moderated studies at scale, efficiently collect and analyze feedback.  
      
    
-   Design lightweight research frameworks for rapid testing cycles in collaboration with designers, PMs, and engineers.  
      
    
-   Synthesize findings into clear, actionable insights that directly inform design and feature iteration.  
      
    

**Research Operations**

-   Support participant recruitment and logistics for qualitative and quantitative studies across multiple markets.  
      
    
-   Maintain and improve research repositories, user databases, feedback trackers, and documentation for recurring studies.  
      
    
-   Contribute to the Voice of the Customer (VoC) program, managing feedback reporting and helping visualize insights for product teams.  
      
    
-   Partner with cross-functional teams to streamline and scale global research practices, ensuring insights are easy to access, compare, and act on across markets.  
      
    
-   Explore and apply AI tools across the research workflow, including planning, recruitment support, analysis, synthesis, repository management, insight communication, and reporting.  
      
    
-   Help identify practical ways to incorporate AI into Mercari’s product development and research cycle, enabling faster learning loops and more scalable decision-making.

  
  

**Strategic Opportunities**

-   Collaborate with senior researchers and design leads on larger strategic research initiatives.  
      
    
-   Participate in the development of research playbooks and frameworks for cross-border user studies.

Qualifications

-   Required Experience/Skills

-   2+ years of UX research experience (in-house, agency, or freelance).
-   Experience planning and conducting usability tests, user interviews and concept evaluations.
-   Familiarity with remote testing tools such as UserTesting, Maze, UserZoom, or similar.
-   Experience with participant recruitment and coordination.
-   Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written).
-   Experience with AI tools and applying them in a research workstream 
-   Comfortable with basic survey tools (e.g., Google Forms, Qualtrics, Typeform).

-   Preferred Experience/Skills

-   Experience working on global or cross-cultural products.
-   Familiarity with research ops processes or VoC management.
-   Japanese, Mandarin, or Cantonese language skills are a plus but not required.
-   Understanding of the ecommerce industry 
-   understanding of the ACGE (anime, comics, games and entertainment) product space

-   Language 

-   Japanese: Beneficial 
-   English: Required - C1
