About Mercari

Circulate all forms of value to unleash the potential in all people

"What can I do to help society thrive with the finite resources we have?" The Mercari marketplace app was born in 2013 out of this thought by our founder Shintaro Yamada as he traveled the world. We believe that by circulating all forms of value, not just physical things and money, we can create opportunities for anyone to realize their dreams and contribute to society and the people around them. Mercari aims to use technology to connect people all over the world and create a world where anyone can unleash their potential. ###

Organization/Team Mission

Mercari Engineering Principles

Mercari Engineering Principles are a shared understanding that serves as the foundation of engineering beliefs and behavior at Mercari. The Engineering Principles are designed to complement the organizational identity (Mercari’s mission, values, and culture) from an engineering viewpoint.

These principles ultimately help us achieve Mercari’s mission by defining the ideal state we seek to realize in the long term.

- Passion For The Product
- Grow Together
- Solve Through Mechanisms
- Collaborate Openly

For more details, please see the following link:

- [Engineering Culture](https://engineering.mercari.com/en/culture/)

The Mobile Enablement team is a core pillar of Engineering Enablement, responsible for enabling group-wide mobile ecosystems across iOS and Android. We drive mobile libraries, frameworks, standards, CI/CD infrastructure, release management, and the adoption of modern development practices, including AI-assisted and agentic workflows, across all Mercari Group business units. Our mission is to make mobile development seamless, automated, and scalable so that product engineering teams can focus on delivering value to users. We simplify engineering workflows, reduce repetitive tasks through automation and AI, and enable broader collaboration across teams through InnerSource and community-driven models.

Mercari is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Mobile Enablement team. In this role, you will be responsible for the team's organizational health, technical strategy, and execution. You will lead a team of senior and principal-level engineers spanning iOS and Android, partnering closely with a dedicated Platform Product Manager. You will own the organizational "how": composing teams, shaping execution models, and ensuring your team's work translates into measurable outcomes for product engineering customers across the company.

See [here](https://careers.mercari.com/en/culture/) for more information about our mission and values.

###

Work Responsibilities

Specific work responsibilities are listed below:

- **Team Leadership & People Management**: Lead, mentor and sustain a team of senior and principal-level mobile engineers across iOS and Android by building an environment where they can operate autonomously, collaborate effectively across boundaries, and translate deep expertise into scalable organizational mechanisms.
- **Technical Strategy & Roadmap**: Define and drive the technical vision for Mercari's mobile enablement, including CI/CD infrastructure, release management, mobile frameworks, and the adoption of AI-assisted and agentic workflows.
- **Execution & Delivery**: Drive outcome-first, customer-centric execution by structuring work around developer journeys and problem spaces; operate the team's engagement models: InnerSource communities and customer enabling.
- **Operational Excellence**: Ensure the reliability and performance of mobile CI/CD pipelines, iOS and Android release management processes, and shared mobile libraries and tooling. Define and inspect the related success metrics, including adoption, CI/CD reliability and speed, release health, and developer experience outcomes.
- **Cross-functional Collaboration**: Collaborate closely with Platform Product Management, other Engineering Enablement pillars, SRE, and product engineering teams to align mobile capabilities with business requirements and drive adoption across business units. Champion cross-domain expertise by growing engineers to contribute across their technical domain by leveraging agentic capabilities.

###

Unique Challenges

- **Leading deep specialists in ambiguity**: Your team consists entirely of senior and principal engineers with deep mobile domain expertise. Enablement teams operate in a dynamic, non-top-down environment. You will regularly define direction, make trade-offs with incomplete information, and reassess priorities as company needs evolve. Success requires building trust, setting clear expectations, and providing growth, not prescribing solutions.
- **Driving impact through influence, not authority**: Your team's work compounds across hundreds of mobile engineers in multiple business units, but adoption mainly depends on alignment and trust, not only mandates. You will spend significant time influencing product teams and stakeholders and building mechanisms that scale beyond the team's direct capacity.
- **Navigating the AgentEx shift while maintaining operational stability**: You must keep release management, CI/CD, and maintenance running reliably while simultaneously investing in the future. This means making mobile tooling agent-compatible, building paved roads, and modernizing the mobile ecosystem to keep pace with our company’s transformation into an AI-native engineering.
