Java Engineer- Associate

**Location:** Newcastle, Hybrid basis.  
**Salary:** £35,000 - £50,000 per annum  
**Experience:** 2-5 years

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and capable **Java Engineer** to join our growing technology team. This role is ideal for an early-career software engineer who has gained solid experience in Java development and is looking to further develop their technical expertise while contributing to the delivery of high-quality solutions.

You'll work as part of an Agile delivery team, building and supporting modern applications and services. The successful candidate will take ownership of their own workload, deliver assigned tasks to agreed standards, and contribute to technical discussions and solution development.

As you progress within the role, you will have opportunities to work more independently, contribute to solution design, and help shape implementation approaches.

Key Responsibilities

-   Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications and services.
-   Build and support microservice architectures using Spring Boot.
-   Deliver high-quality, secure, and maintainable code.
-   Troubleshoot and resolve routine to moderately complex technical issues.
-   Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
-   Contribute to solution design and technical implementation activities.
-   Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices and support continuous improvement initiatives.
-   Work collaboratively with engineers, architects, testers, and product stakeholders.
-   Support deployment and operation of applications within cloud-based environments.

## Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

-   Commercial experience developing applications using **Java (JDK 11+)**.
-   Experience with **Spring Boot** and **microservices architecture**.
-   Knowledge of **WebLogic Server** and **CAS SDK**.
-   Experience working within **AWS** or other public cloud environments.
-   Understanding of **container technologies** (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
-   Experience with **Test-Driven Development (TDD)**.
-   Familiarity with **Continuous Integration (CI)** and **Continuous Testing** practices.
-   Experience working in **Scrum/Agile** delivery environments.
-   Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
-   Good communication and collaborative working abilities.
