**PAY RANGE: $130k - $157k annually (exempt position)**

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:**

**Unit Operations**

-   Oversee unit operations including, but not limited to, timely completion and review of multidisciplinary treatment plans (MDTP); checking logs (refrigerator, emergency cart log, Point of Care (POC) testing, legal tracking log); and accuracy of patient Kardex.
-   Audit all seclusion or manual hold interventions on assigned shift.
-   Monitor inventory of office, medical, and patient care supplies. Request replenishment of supplies as needed.
-   Alert the Administrator on Call (AOC) when urgent or extreme events occur. Examples include, but are not limited to, Absent Without Leave (AWOL) patients, 911 or urgent ambulance transfers, patient injuries, staff injuries, and incidents involving law enforcement.
-   Gather and compile data for daily shift and routine reporting. Prepare shift report and review with oncoming Nursing Supervisor and forward copy to Chief Nursing Officer. Routine reports include Shift Summary, Bed Control, and Incident Reports.
-   Prepare and investigate Incident Reports (IR) in an accurate and timely fashion; follow up with staff education to prevent reoccurring incidents.
-   Maintain a clutter-free working environment.

**Fiscal and Staff Management**

-   Oversee staff assignments to prevent unnecessary overtime and ensure appropriate staffing levels based on census and acuity assessments. Manage appropriate staffing levels in conjunction with Staffing Coordinator. Report any staffing concerns to the Chief Nursing Officer. Document approved overtime on employee time adjustment forms.
-   Directly supervise nursing staff on assigned shift.
-   The Nursing Manager collects staff performance data from the Nursing Supervisor to ensure proper supervision and to provide accurate and meaningful introductory and annual performance evaluations. Review performance evaluations with the Chief Nursing Officer before reviewing with staff.
-   Collaborate with Chief Nursing Officer to address performance concerns or potential need for staff disciplinary measures.
-   Support Chief Nursing Officer, Nursing Supervisors, and Registered Nurses to provide a high-quality orientation and ongoing education for clinical staff. Continually educate staff on key issues relating to hospital policies and procedures and healthcare regulations.
-   Ensure accurate and timely shift-to-shift reports.

**Manage Patient Care Services**

-   Monitor clinical issues for high acuity patients or patients with unusual problems.
-   Coordinate offsite tests, emergency room visits, admission and discharges, lab processes, work orders and audits.
-   Address and resolve patient and family complaints. Proactively work with Chief Nursing Officer when a complaint becomes a potential grievance and alert the hospital’s Internal Patient Advocate.

**Staff Scheduling**

-   Monitor all nursing staff attendance records cards for unapproved overtime, and patterns of attendance and punctuality. Complete time records for all staff and forward to payroll each pay period.
-   The Nursing Manager works closely with the Staffing Coordinator (SC) to prepare staff schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels for upcoming shifts. Reviews staff level concerns with Director of Nursing.

## Requirements

**POSITION Requirements**

Education/Licensure

-   Current California Registered Nurse license
-   Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, or obtained during initial orientation period
-   Current Handle with Care (HWC) obtained during initial orientation period
-   Knowledge and experience of psychiatric diagnosis and associated risks, medications, biological systems, nursing process, treatment planning, and leadership.

**SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES**

The Nurse Manager must complete initial and annual competency evaluations across key clinical and operational areas, and demonstrate the ability to apply that knowledge in daily practice. A strong understanding of hospital policies, procedures, and healthcare regulations is required, along with a commitment to ongoing staff education.

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**

-   While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:
-   Stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand for sustained periods of time.
-   Walk, push, pull, lift, move objects from a lower to higher position or horizontally from position to position or otherwise move objects.
-   Feel sizes, shapes, temperatures, and textures by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips.
-   Express or exchange ideas orally and potentially loudly, accurately, or quickly.
-   Perceive the nature of sound with no less than a 40 dB loss @ 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz with or without correction.
-   Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
-   Able to provide manual holds for patients who are physically acting out and are potentially dangerous (at times this occurs on the floor).
-   Minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction.
-   While worker may possibly be subjected to temperature changes, the worker is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as the work is predominantly performed inside.
