> OpenFn · Rwanda (Remote) · Contract · Posted 2026-05-04

**Workplace:** remote

**Department:** Services

## Description

[OpenFn](https://www.openfn.org) is the [digital public good](https://digitalpublicgoods.net/) for public service automation & AI orchestration. Our platform automates data exchange and digital workflows so that governments and NGOs can deliver public services more efficiently, achieve interoperability across fragmented systems, and scale critical public services across health, humanitarian, and government programs.

Our team, [Open Function Group](http://openfn.org/about), the primary steward of this open-source platform, is a lean, fully-remote team of integration specialists, solution architects, and implementation consultants working across 40+ countries.

We are not making marginal improvements to already comfortable lives. We are building the infrastructure that allows governments to function, clinics to operate, and vulnerable populations to access services they depend on.

### The role

We are hiring a Finance & Operations Lead to own the financial and operational backbone of OpenFn, ensuring strong financial visibility, reliable process delivery, and well-coordinated operations as the organization grows.

Tl;dr: We need a remote, finance-capable (but non-CPA), details/process-oriented, spreadsheet/CRM native who can level up OpenFn’s internal finance & operations game, enabling this diverse team of 30 tech for good specialists to the next level.

This role sits at the intersection of operations, finance, and accounting oversight. You will be the person who understands how financial data and core processes flow through the organization, and you will use that understanding to ensure the company operates smoothly and scales effectively.

You will be the first port of call for leadership and internal teams when questions arise around financial processes, reporting, or day-to-day operations. You bring clarity to ambiguity, ensure coordination across internal and external partners, and help the team operate with confidence in how the business is run. You will also play a key role in translating financial performance into clear insights for leadership.

Think of it as a hybrid of finance partner and operations lead for a growing, globally distributed organization. You are not expected to act as an accountant or CFO. You are expected to ensure that the company’s financial and operational foundations are structured, reliable, and fit for purpose, and to work closely with external accounting and tax partners on accounting & tax execution.

As a senior hire in a small organization, you both build and execute the processes and ways of working that make the whole organization more effective over time: improving visibility, strengthening operational discipline, and reducing complexity as the company grows.

### What you’ll be doing

You will work closely with leadership, internal teams, and external partners (for Accounting & Tax) to manage financial operations and planning, improve internal processes, and support the day-to-day running of the organization. Leveraging your expertise in finance and operations, you will help ensure that core processes run smoothly, information flows reliably, and the business has a clear and consistent view of its performance.

Financial Planning & Reporting

- Support budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning processes by developing and maintaining OpenFn’s financial models
- Review monthly financial statements, reconciliations, and KPI reporting for accuracy and completeness
- Own preparation of financial performance reporting, including leadership readouts (e.g., QBRs) and board/investor materials, as required
- Build and maintain financial reports / dashboards (e.g., within QBO/CRM) to provide clear visibility into business performance and translate data into actionable insights

Operational Process & Systems Ownership

- Oversee OpenFn’s financial and operational systems (QuickBooks, Salesforce/Odoo/CRM), supporting tool enhancements and owning the development of reporting and dashboards (in partnership with other internal teams, e.g. sales/services)
- Centrally manage user access, licenses, and renewals for all organizational software tools (SaaS).
- Identify meaningful friction points in internal processes (onboarding, T&E, billing, etc), and design, implement, and own process improvements
- Develop and manage a repository of internal systems and processes (CRM, T&E, etc) to support internal training and onboarding

Vendor Coordination and Partnership

- Serve as the primary internal point of contact for OpenFn’s accounting, tax, and legal vendors
- Provide input and partnership on key accounting workflows to ensure that the accounting vendor executes on its day-to-day responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner (AP/AR, month-end close, payroll, financial statements, etc).
- Coordinate with accounting, tax, and legal vendors to manage compliance workflows across jurisdictions, including entity setups, tax filings/compliance, registrations, and other regulatory and reporting obligations
- Support audit and reporting processes as needed

Internal / People Operations

- Support re-design and execution of company compensation strategy and compensation escalation process
- Support key elements of new hire onboarding: systems access, employee record creation (Gusto), process onboarding (T&E guidance, etc), logistics, and compensation
- Plan and organize company-wide events and offsites, managing related budgets, travel, and logistics
