**Workplace:** hybrid

**Department:** Quantum Science and Exploratory Research

## Description

At OQC, we aren’t just theorising about the future; we’re building it.

Born from a philosophy of bold innovation, we’ve successfully transitioned quantum computing from an academic dream into a commercial reality.

The most exciting thing is that we’re just getting started and we’ve recently closed our £260 million Series C funding round – the largest fundraise ever completed by a quantum computing company in Europe.

### The Purpose

As Head of Logical Systems, you'll lead the team responsible for bringing together the critical technologies that enable fault-tolerant quantum computing. Working at the intersection of quantum hardware, control systems and high-performance computing, you'll define the system architecture that underpins our next generation of scalable logical quantum computers while leading a high-performing multidisciplinary team.

### The Role

Reporting to the VP of Quantum Science & Exploratory Research, you will lead OQC's Logical Systems team, driving the integration of quantum error correction technologies into a unified logical computing stack. You'll work across engineering and research disciplines, shape technical strategy, oversee complex research programmes, and build the capabilities needed to realise large-scale fault-tolerant quantum computing.

### What You'll Be Working On

- Lead the integration of control hardware, firmware, cryogenic infrastructure and HPC/decoder interfaces into a unified logical systems architecture.
- Define and deliver system-level testbeds that validate quantum error correction performance in collaboration with Device Scaling and Cryo Infrastructure teams.
- Own the Logical Systems roadmap, ensuring delivery against key technical milestones and aligning priorities with OQC's wider technology strategy.
- Lead, mentor and grow a multidisciplinary team, driving technical excellence, performance and career development.
- Direct complex cross-functional research programmes, managing resources, budgets, timelines and technical risks across multiple teams.
- Build and manage strategic collaborations with external partners, research organisations and suppliers to accelerate technical progress.
- Represent OQC through scientific publications, conferences and collaborative research initiatives.

### What We're Looking For

- PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent commercial experience.
- Deep technical expertise in cryogenic systems engineering, superconducting qubits or a closely related field.
- Experience leading technical teams within fast-paced research or engineering organisations.
- Demonstrated ownership of complex technical programmes from concept through delivery.
- Experience designing, developing and delivering advanced quantum or cryogenic systems to specification.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven experience in project planning, technical roadmapping, data-driven decision making and resource prioritisation.

### The 'Nice-to-Haves'

- Commercial experience developing quantum computing or cryogenic technologies.
- Experience working across multiple quantum hardware or cryogenic platforms.
- Experience coordinating large multidisciplinary engineering or research teams.
- Experience managing external research collaborations or commercial partnerships.
- Strong presentation skills and experience communicating complex technical concepts to senior stakeholders.

### Why Join OQC

You will join a world-class team at the forefront of the next computational era. We offer a culture of bold innovation, the chance to work with unique lab infrastructure, and the opportunity to see your work redefine the limits of computation.
