Administrative duties may include completing patient call-backs, outpatient referrals, appointment scheduling, and relaying biopsy or lab results under the direction of a physician.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties (Medical Assistant)

- Clean, wash, and sterilize equipment per the autoclave process.
- Collect urine samples and perform routine tests directed by the provider; prepare other specimens for testing or lab pickup.
- Perform biohazard maintenance: check all sharps containers (in rooms and lab) and biohazard trash cans, and replace if full.
- Closing duties, including setting biopsy trays for the following day.

Documentation Duties (Scribe)

- When working in the scribe role, accompany the provider into the exam room and directly assist during consultations and examinations.
- Transcribe the history and physical exam and accurately document the provider's encounter with the patient, including symptoms, diagnoses, treatment plans, follow-up instructions, orders, prescriptions, and procedures, as dictated by the physician or advanced care provider, for their review and approval.
- Assist in placing orders for imaging, prescriptions, or referrals for review and approval by the physician or advanced care provider.
- Enter billing codes for review by the physician or advanced care provider.
- Update patient history, physical exam, and other pertinent health information.
- Prepare and assemble medical record documentation and charts for the physician.
- Anticipate the needs of the physician to ensure efficiency in a clinical setting.
- Coordinate with the rest of the care team (e.g., other medical assistants) so that rooming, room turnover, and procedure setup keep pace with the provider's schedule.

Administrative Duties

- Coordinate referrals of services to and from other health care providers, acting as the liaison between a provider, his/her patients, and other medical offices.
- Assist with back-office duties when not directly assisting the provider with a patient, such as completing patient call-backs, outpatient referrals, appointment scheduling, clearing biopsy logs, and relaying biopsy or lab results under the direction of a physician.

General Duties

- Communicate with patients, physicians, and all staff professionally and with respect.
- Maintain cleanliness of clinic areas, exam rooms, and shared office spaces (labs, break room, bathrooms).
- Maintain a team-centered attitude, including willingness to collaborate or provide coverage on other provider teams as necessary.
- Perform other clinical or non-clinical tasks as assigned by the physician, supervisors, and managers.
