**About the Role**

We’re looking for a **Senior Backend Engineer** to help shape our core API and data layer as we scale from thousands to millions of daily events. You’ll design reliable backend systems, work closely with product, and make thoughtful technical decisions that balance scalability, performance, and business needs.

**Key Responsibilities**

### Backend Systems & APIs

-   Design, build, and ship resilient backend services.
-   Develop and maintain scalable APIs and data-layer infrastructure.
-   Work with **PostgreSQL** and background job systems.
-   Build systems capable of handling high volumes of daily events.
-   Implement pragmatic testing practices to maintain reliability and code quality.

### Observability & Reliability

-   Build and maintain effective observability across backend services.
-   Identify and address reliability, performance, and scalability issues.
-   Ensure backend systems remain resilient as the platform scales.

### Product Collaboration

-   Partner closely with product teams to define scope and technical tradeoffs.
-   Understand the business purpose behind technical requirements and contribute to product decisions.
-   Balance engineering quality with practical delivery timelines.

**Required Experience & Skills**

-   **5+ years** of experience building and shipping backend systems in production.
-   Strong proficiency in **Python or Go**.
-   Strong **SQL** skills and experience working with PostgreSQL.
-   Experience designing and maintaining production APIs and backend services.
-   Strong understanding of background jobs and asynchronous processing.
-   Practical approach to testing and software quality.
-   Experience building reliable, scalable systems.
-   Strong problem-solving and technical decision-making skills.
-   Ability to collaborate effectively with product and cross-functional teams.

**Nice to Have**

-   Experience working with **high-volume event pipelines**.
-   Experience designing systems that process large volumes of daily events.
-   Understanding of **GDPR-minded data handling** and privacy-conscious system design.
-   Experience working in environments scaling from thousands to millions of daily events.
