# PUBLIC PRACTICE Careers

> <p>PUBLIC PRACTICE is a not-for-profit with a mission to improve the quality and equality of everyday places, for now and in the future. We believe that the built environment is where the symptoms, and solutions, to society’s most complex challenges are played out and one where the role of the public sector is often overlooked. Our purpose is not just to increase the interdisciplinary built environment expertise within local government, it's to transform the status of public service, and support those working within it to lead the way.<br></p><p>WHAT WE DO: We have created a unique placement programme specifically designed for built environment practitioners (Associates) and public Authorities. We offer private sector professionals an attractive route into the public sector whilst capturing leading industry knowledge and sharing it across the wider sector.</p><p>IMPACT SO FAR: In just four years since forming, our impact has already exceeded our initial estimates. We have placed 177 Associates within 44 Authorities across London, the South East and East of England. 94% of Associates have chosen to continue working in the public sector beyond the end of their placements. We've been <a href="https://www.dezeen.com/2019/01/21/2019-experimental-architecture-award-shortlist/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external">award-nominated</a> and featured extensively in industry and national press, including <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2019/may/29/joyous-place-public-practice-architects-shocking-questions-harlow-garden-town" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external">The Guardian</a>, <a href="http://www.architecturetoday.co.uk/critical-friend/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external">Architecture Today</a>, <a href="https://www.dezeen.com/2017/12/04/finn-williams-opinion-public-practice-opportunities-architects-ordinary-briefs-ordinary-people/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external">Dezeen</a>, <a href="https://www.lgcplus.com/services/regeneration-and-planning/pioneering-scheme-places-architects-back-in-planning-departments/7024542.article" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external">Local Government Chronicle</a> and <a href="https://www.propertyweek.com/professional/public-practice-duo-outline-initiative-to-fill-skills-gap-in-council-planning-departments/5096627.article" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external">Property Week</a>. </p><p>PLANS FOR THE FUTURE: Over the next two years we plan to expand the reach of our placement programme to a national scale, diversify the people and types of placeshaping skills we bring to the public sector, and reach wider audiences to share leading knowledge and practice from the ground. We are a small and fast-growing organisation. </p><p>To learn more about who we are and what we do check out our <a href="http://www.publicpractice.org.uk" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external">website</a> or scroll through our Tweets (@PRACTICE PUBLIC) or <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/publicpractice/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external">LinkedIn page</a>.</p>
