**POSITION SUMMARY:**

The Histology Assistant position in Lombard, IL is involved assisting the histology laboratory team with the preparation and processing of tissue specimens to support accurate diagnostic outcomes.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**

-   Understands slide stainer and staining cycles. Able to load/unload slide stainer
-   Verifies that slide(s) and block(s) match for each case.
-   Compiles cases and ensures that slides are placed with corresponding patient requisition information.
-   Understands pathologists case distribution system.
-   Ensures that “Stat” cases are seen by pathologists as soon as available.
-   Files blocks appropriately.
-   Assists as needed with pathologists’ orders.
-   Helps maintain neatness of histology area.
-   Communicates with pathologists and lab supervisors as needed.

**Lab Assistant Duties:**

-   Preparation of supplies and specimens.
-   Preparation of reagents.
-   Label cassettes and prepare notes on requisition forms.
-   Load and operate the tissue processors.
-   Assist in Gross Room.
-   Receive, label and analyzing samples received via mail.
-   Prepare sections of human tissue for microscopic evaluation and patient diagnosis, using techniques
-   to embed, section, and mount tissue, from surgical procedures.
-   Ensure that all safety guidelines are followed strictly at all times and maintain a clean and orderly
-   environment.
-   Perform distribution, filing and other tasks as requested by the Supervisor.
-   Log cases in the biopsy book.
-   Follow universal precaution measures and all precautions as described in the Laboratory Safety
-   Manual.
-   Record all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility.
-   Maintain documentation as required by CLIA guidelines.
-   Monitor inventory levels of supplies and equipment on a regular basis; order supplies for laboratory.
-   Maintain log of supplies as they are ordered.
-   Organize and store all chemicals substances, fluids and compressed gases according to safety
-   instructions
-   Maintain equipment and assist in ordering laboratory supplies
-   Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
-   Maintain compliance with the company’s Compliance Program.
-   Treats staff, physicians, visitors and patients with dignity and respect.
-   Adheres to Code of Conduct and Mission & Value Statement.
-   Participates in special projects as needed

## Requirements

-   High School Diploma or equivalent; histotechnology certification preferred.
-   Familiarity with histology processing techniques.
-   Experience working in a clinical or laboratory setting advantageous.
-   Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
-   Team player with good communication skills.
-   Commitment to safety and quality standards.

**Compensation Range:** $19.00 - $25.00 per hour. Final offer will be based on a combination of skills, experience, location, and internal equity.
