The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Lead an engineering team as a hands-on player-coach, staying active in the codebase while mentoring engineers and expanding the group. Work with business and customer-facing colleagues on product decisions, reporting directly to the CTO.

What you'll do

\- Manage a group of experienced staff-level and principal-level engineers as it expands over time.

\- Stay technically involved each week by writing code, reviewing designs and debugging difficult problems.

\- Deliver customer-facing AI products for enterprise users.

\- Mentor engineers with candid feedback, strengthening their technical and product decision-making and preparing future leaders.

\- Lead recruiting, onboarding and team growth to build an engineering organization with a high talent bar.

\- Link engineering choices to business results by partnering with domain experts and customer-facing teams.

## Requirements

What we're looking for

\- 10+ years of experience, including formal engineering management with 2 to 10 direct reports.

\- Management background at a leading, fast-paced technology company.

\- Current individual contributor skills: writing production software, reviewing designs and pull requests, and debugging.

\- Experience building or leading external, customer-facing products.

\- A track record of growing engineering teams from recruiting through ramp-up, ideally including staff-level and principal-level engineers.

\- Depth in backend engineering or backend infrastructure; full-stack with a backend lean is fine.

\- Familiarity with machine learning or AI-driven systems, such as retrieval-based or agent-based approaches.

\- Strong people leadership: clear expectations, direct feedback, early handling of performance concerns and helping engineers step into larger roles.

Bonus points

\- Experience with Python and TypeScript.
