# Property Accountant

## Description

The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the general ledger and supporting financial reporting for the Real Estate portfolio. This role ensures accurate accounting for rental revenue, operating expenses, capital expenditures, and tenant activity in accordance with GAAP and company policies.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**

**General Ledger & Month-End Close**

-   Prepare journal entries including accruals, amortization, and allocations

-   Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations, and resolve discrepancies

-   Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes

**Property & Lease Accounting**

-   Record rental income and tenant billings
-   Prepare and reconcile CAM and tenant recoveries
-   Track prepaid expenses, security deposits, and escrows
-   Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records

**Accounts Receivable & Payable**

-   Monitor rent collections and AR aging
-   Assist with delinquency reporting and follow-up
-   Review and process property-related invoices

**Financial Reporting & Analysis**

-   Prepare property-level financial statements
-   Perform budget-to-actual variance analysis
-   Assist in annual budget preparation and reforecasting

**Soft Skills**

-   Ability to manage multiple properties and entities simultaneously in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
-   Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with property managers, asset managers, and external auditors

**Qualifications**

-   Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
-   2–5 years accounting experience; real estate preferred
-   Knowledge of property accounting principles
-   Experience with Yardi Voyager or comparable property accounting software
-   Experience booking equity entries and intercompany transactions
-   Understanding of entity hierarchies and their accounting treatment across real estate ownership structures
-   Comfortable with fixed asset accounting and depreciation methodologies
-   Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
-   Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial modeling

This is a full time role

Rate is $10-$12/hr depending on experience
