## Description

**Position Summary**

The Technical Superintendent is responsible for the overall technical management, safe operation, maintenance, regulatory compliance, and budget execution for an assigned fleet of dry bulk carriers. The role acts as the primary shore-based technical support for vessel command teams, ensuring minimal downtime, strict environmental compliance, and high operational efficiency.

### Key Responsibilities

**1\. Operational & Technical Management**

-   Monitor vessel performance, fuel consumption, machinery health, and Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS).
-   Provide 24/7 technical troubleshooting support for chief engineers and captains on main propulsion, auxiliary power, hatch cover hydraulics, and deck gear.
-   Oversee structural maintenance, focus on cargo hold integrity, ballast tanks, and hatch weather-tightness.

**2\. Dry-Docking & Capital Repairs**

-   Draft detailed repair specifications and solicit competitive shipyard tenders.
-   Manage dry-dockings, major retrofits (e.g., BWTS, scrubber systems), and afloat repairs directly on-site.
-   Control repair costs, monitor project timelines, and negotiate final yard accounts.

**3\. Compliance, Audits & Safety**

-   Ensure full compliance with Class, Flag State, IMO (SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM/ISPS), and Port State Control (PSC) requirements.
-   Prepare vessels for and manage **RightShip** inspections, ensuring minimal risk findings and optimal vetting scores.
-   Investigate technical incidents, equipment failures, and near-misses; implement corrective action plans.

**4\. Financial & Supply Chain Control**

-   Prepare, manage, and defend the annual technical operating expenditure (OPEX) budget for assigned vessels.
-   Review and approve requisitions for spare parts, stores, lube oils, and specialized service engineers.

## Requirements

### Qualifications & Requirements

-   **Marine Qualification:** Valid Chief Engineer Class 1 (STCW III/2) CoC with proven sea time on motor vessels (preferred), or a degree in Marine Engineering / Naval Architecture.
-   **Experience:** Minimum 2–3 years of sea time as Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer, or 2+ years in a shore-based Technical Superintendent role handling dry bulk vessels (Handysize up to Capesize).
-   **Technical Expertise:** Deep working knowledge of main engine systems (MAN B&W / WinGD / Wärtsilä), hydraulics, deck cranes, hold cleaning procedures, and corrosion control.
-   **Vetting Knowledge:** Strong familiarity with RightShip inspection frameworks, PSC regimes, and Class rules.
-   **Software Skills:** Proficiency in maritime PMS/ERP software (e.g., AMOS, SERTICA, Danaos, Veson Nautical).
