# Senior Design Engineer - 12m fixed term contract

## Description

We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to be based at our customer site at Gloucester on a full time basis (37 hours), with a potential for 2 days a week from home. DBS check might be required. The anticipated start date for the position is 01/05/2026. It's a one year fixed term contract for a start and may be extended.

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be required to:

-   Design and detail efficient landing gear systems for civil and military aircraft to meet demanding customer requirements
-   Support the design and manufacturing of the landing gear systems
-   Lead innovative mechanical design projects and ensuring robust, reliable, and cost-effective solutions across the product lifecycle
-   Play a key role from concept design to detail design, configuration and technical documentation, and active collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure customer requirements and industry standards are met

**Key responsibilities**

-   Support all aspects of concept to detail design throughout the life cycle of our landing gear programmes

-   Support all aspects of product configuration
-   Ensure accuracy and compliance with Safran’s configuration management processes
-   Use of up-to-date technology including computer based programmes and systems: CAD (CATIA V5 preferred), 3D Modelling, 2D Draughting, data management systems
-   Design to meet exacting customer requirements and industry standards
-   Prepare and deliver technical presentations to customers and stakeholders
-   Interface closely with team members, chief engineers, programme management, manufacturing and colleagues at other Safran sites
-   Work closely with manufacturing to reduce non-conformances on products and facilitate manufacturability
-   Liaise with other sites to assist with the offload of packages of work
-   Participate in design verification activities, including working towards design check signatory status
-   Mentor / coach junior team members to promote knowledge transfer and upskilling within the team.
-   Comply with industry standards, regulations & qualification requirement

## Requirements

ESSENTIAL:

-   Degree in relevant Engineering discipline
-   Good knowledge of design and manufacturing processes, preferably related to the aerospace industry
-   Fully conversant with traditional and computerised design and analysis methods
-   Proficient in CAD (CATIA V5 preferred), general computer literacy (Microsoft Office), and configuration management
-   Strong verbal and written communication skills
-   Adherence to Safran’s Code of Conduct, HSE, ESG principles, and data privacy requirements
-   Proactive problem-solving and contribution to continuous improvement in design and manufacturing processes

DESIRABLE:

-   Previous aerospace experience
-   Work package ownership experience
-   GD&T training
-   Good knowledge of aerospace materials and manufacturing processes
