### About the Role

We are seeking an experienced **Database Administrator** to manage, optimize, and secure enterprise database environments while maintaining the highest standards for performance, availability, and data integrity. This role places a strong emphasis on protecting Personally Identifiable Information (PII) through encryption, access controls, and other data protection technologies.

The ideal candidate will possess both traditional database administration expertise and a strong understanding of database security, ensuring enterprise databases remain highly available, compliant, and protected against evolving security risks.

### Responsibilities

**Database Administration**

-   Install, configure, administer, and maintain enterprise relational database platforms, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Oracle.
-   Monitor database performance and system health, proactively tuning queries, indexes, and storage to maximize efficiency.
-   Manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity.
-   Maintain highly available database environments through replication, clustering, and failover technologies.
-   Perform capacity planning, database upgrades, patch management, and lifecycle maintenance activities.
-   Troubleshoot complex database issues while partnering with application development teams on schema design, query optimization, and overall database performance improvements.

**Database Security & PII Encryption**

-   Design, implement, and maintain encryption solutions for databases containing Personally Identifiable Information (PII), ensuring data is protected both at rest and in transit.
-   Administer encryption keys and integrate databases with enterprise Key Management Systems (KMS) and Hardware Security Modules (HSM).
-   Implement appropriate encryption methodologies, including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), column-level encryption, and tablespace encryption.
-   Establish and enforce data masking, tokenization, and role-based access controls for sensitive information.
-   Collaborate with Information Security and Compliance teams to ensure adherence to applicable regulatory frameworks, including GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and CCPA.
-   Conduct routine audits of database access, security configurations, and encryption controls to identify and mitigate risk.
-   Support security investigations and incident response activities involving database security or potential data exposure.

## Requirements

-   Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Database Administrator or in a closely related role.
-   Strong hands-on experience administering one or more enterprise relational database platforms, including SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
-   Demonstrated experience implementing database encryption technologies such as Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), column-level encryption, or equivalent solutions.
-   Experience working with enterprise key management practices and technologies.
-   Strong understanding of database security principles, access controls, auditing, and data protection best practices.
-   Experience designing and supporting backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high-availability database environments.
-   Solid knowledge of SQL performance tuning and database optimization techniques.

**Preferred Qualifications**

-   Experience administering cloud-hosted database platforms such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, or Google Cloud SQL.
-   Familiarity with regulatory and privacy compliance frameworks including GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, and PCI-DSS.
-   Experience developing automation scripts using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
-   Industry certifications related to database administration or cloud database technologies (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server Certification, AWS Database Specialty).

The base pay range for this role depends on appropriate skills, experience, and technical level. Career Level 2 base salary is USD $125,000-150,000.

Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills.

Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus.
