**About the role**

As Assistant Picture Editor you will support the wider picture desk team in ensuring the timely publication of photography and stills, supporting a variety of stories across all our platforms. 

The role requires the candidate to work across a variety of shifts and roles from picture tasting, picture research to night picture editor shifts, supporting the needs of the dynamic newsroom and ensuring that standards remain high.

**Key responsibilities**

-   Creatively source highly engaging imagery and picture lead stories
-   Research and edit picture packages ready for publication
-   Scan photography wires and other sources such as social media to  identifying the best images
-   Support senior picture editors by working on a rota, operating across various roles including picture tasting, picture research and night picture editor shifts. 
-   Processing and captioning published images concisely and correctly, ensuring factual information is accurate
-   Liaise with digital publishers and editors to provide the best imagery within budget

**Key skills**

-   Experience of photo editing, commissioning, a good eye for composition - from building photo galleries to selecting front cover imagery.
-   Strong interest in photography, current affairs and culture 
-   Proficient in the use of social media as a journalism tool 
-   Experience of print publications, digital and content management systems
-   Comfortable working as part of a team but able to work independently and use initiative.
-   Able to work quickly, accurately, to tight deadlines and under pressure.
-   Able to work to budget and maximise the usage of imagery from a wide variety of sources.
-   Strong editing and curation skills across print and digital.
-   Have experience of using Content Hub for Publishers image database. Experience of Adobe Authoring is also desirable.
-   Be able to demonstrate an understanding of photo licensing contracts and operating within IPSO guidelines.
-   A proactive, creative ‘can do attitude’ is required
