J**ob Purpose:** To provide close medical support to an EOD Team conducting EOD operations in potential chemical environments.

### About the role: 

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit EOD Team Medics to provide close medical support to an EOD Team conducting EOD operations in potential chemical environments. In addition, they will be crucial in the development and implementation of this new capability.

The role will be an international contract in our Middle East and North Africa region. In addition to the medical support provided to the EOD team operating in areas with suspected chemical weapons, they will be crucial in the development and implementation of this new capability.

### Responsibilities:

**Training:**

-   Support delivery of pre-hospital emergency care and trauma management training relevant to EOD casualty scenarios. 
-   Deliver ongoing chemical environment awareness and hazard recognition refresher training to EOD teams in field locations 
-   Liaise with the programme management to arrange logistics, facilities, travel and other resources required for training. 
-   Assess and validate team competency in basic pre-hospital emergency care in a chemical environment 
-   Ensure that courses are delivered in accordance with the budget and in accordance with operational needs. 
-   Ensure the welfare, safety and security of training participants. 
-   Prepare and submit course reports. 
-   Maintain all materials and records in SharePoint and on Confluence as appropriate.

**Operations:**

-   Provide close medical support to an EOD Team capable of operating in a potential chemical environment.
-   Support hotline entries including PPE checks, decontamination, monitoring and recording pre and post entry vital signs, conducting acetylcholinesterase base line testing, writing up site activity plans. 
-   Support programmes in the development of local chemical environment medical SOPs that conform to NMAS where required. 
-   Provide advice to programme teams on pre-hospital emergency care in a chemical environment and supervise the development of task-specific procedures where required. 
-   Liaise with the programme to ensure the effective operations of the EOD Team

**Other:**

-   Ensure familiarity with and adhere to all HALO policies and procedures. 
-   Undertake the role in a manner appropriate to the cultural context and within the local legal framework. 
-   Understand and uphold the standards outlined in HALO’s safeguarding policy, acting with due care and attention to safeguard the well-being of anyone that comes into contact with HALO’s work and reporting concerns if they arise. 
-   Discharge duties and responsibilities under HALO’s health and safety procedures. 
-   Carry out any other duties as directed to meet programme standards and operational requirements

**General:** 

-   Uphold HALO’s core values and standards, promoting its ethos and mission statement
-   Ensure familiarity with and adherence to all HALO policies and procedures, especially the code of conduct and safeguarding

## Requirements

-   Qualification and current HCPC registration as a paramedic.

-   A CBRN, HART or equivalent qualification is essential (both military or civilian qualifications are acceptable).
-   An understanding of chemical weapons hazards and their precursors, associated equipment, and decontamination. 
-   Experience of working in fragile or conflict affected environments. 
-   Strong IT and general computer skills (particularly Microsoft Office). 
-   Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English. 
-   Excellent interpersonal skills – you will need to quickly slot into established teams and work with and train people from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures.

**Desirable Requirements:** 

-   Knowledge of Arabic would be advantageous, but it is not essential.

**Physical requirements for the role:** 

-   May be required to live and sleep in austere conditions     

**Travel Requirements:**

-   This role will be based in Syria, with travel across the country as needed.
