## Description

### Senior Structural Fire Engineer
Hybrid | Cornwall & Remote
£60,000 - £75,000 + Benefits

### Help Shape the Future of Structural Fire Engineering

Are you a Chartered Structural Fire Engineer looking for a role where your expertise genuinely influences project outcomes, technical innovation, and industry best practice?

We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Fire Engineer to join a highly respected technical team supporting complex construction projects across the UK. This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of structural fire performance, combining advanced fire engineering with practical structural design to deliver solutions that make buildings safer, more resilient, and fully compliant with evolving regulations.

You'll be part of a collaborative environment where technical excellence is valued, innovation is encouraged, and your professional judgement will have a direct impact on both clients and projects nationwide.

### The Opportunity

This is far more than a traditional fire engineering role.

You will lead structural fire resistance assessments and performance-based fire engineering analyses across a diverse portfolio of commercial, residential, and industrial developments. Alongside your fire engineering specialism, you'll apply your broader structural engineering expertise to support member design, connection design, load analysis, and technical problem-solving under ambient conditions.

Working closely with engineers, architects, contractors, regulators, and testing laboratories, you'll play a key role in translating complex engineering challenges into practical, buildable solutions.

The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining collaboration at a Cornwall-based headquarters with remote working flexibility.

### What You'll Be Doing

- Leading structural fire resistance assessments in accordance with relevant Eurocodes and UK standards.
- Developing and reviewing performance-based fire engineering strategies for complex projects.
- Undertaking structural design calculations under ambient conditions for steel, concrete, and masonry structures.
- Designing and assessing structural connections and fixing systems under both ambient and elevated temperature conditions.
- Providing technical guidance on fire protection requirements and structural fire performance.
- Collaborating directly with clients, architects, fire engineers, and regulatory bodies to develop effective engineering solutions.
- Supporting technical approvals, product assessments, and technical documentation.
- Managing structural fire testing programmes, including furnace testing and interpretation of results.
- Working with accredited laboratories and testing organisations throughout the testing and certification process.
- Contributing to research, innovation, and the evaluation of emerging technologies and systems.
- Advising on evolving UK fire safety legislation and industry developments.
- Mentoring junior engineers and helping foster a culture of technical excellence and knowledge sharing.

## Requirements

### Essential

- Chartered Engineer status (IStructE, ICE, or equivalent).
- Membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFireE) or equivalent fire engineering qualification.
- Strong experience in structural fire engineering, including both prescriptive and performance-based methodologies.
- Proven capability in structural design under ambient conditions using Eurocodes.
- Excellent understanding of structural and fire Eurocodes and UK National Annexes.
- Experience delivering projects within commercial, residential, or industrial construction sectors.
- Strong technical report writing and client-facing communication skills.
- Right to work in the UK.

### Desirable

- Experience with the fire design of fixings, anchors, channels, and connection systems.
- Knowledge of thin-walled cold-formed steel behaviour in fire conditions.
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience using software such as Abaqus, ANSYS, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of ETA-assessed and UKCA/CE-marked products and fire performance classifications.
- Experience validating digital models against physical fire testing data.
- Involvement in research, technical publications, or industry guidance related to structural fire engineering.

## Benefits

- Competitive salary of £60,000 - £75,000 depending on experience.
- Hybrid working with flexibility between home and office.
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
- Employer pension contributions.
- Opportunity to influence technical strategy and innovation.
- Exposure to challenging and varied projects across the UK.
- Collaborative, supportive team environment.
- Genuine opportunities for professional growth and development.
- A role where your expertise will be recognised, trusted, and valued.
