Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism partners with frontline feminist movements to support women, trans, and non-binary activists striving to create a more just and equitable world. Our holistic, flexible approach enables frontline feminists to respond to real-time threats and opportunities, protect and care for themselves and one another, and sustain and propel solutions to the most critical crises and injustices of our time.

Founded in 1997, Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism is one of four independent Urgent Action Sister Funds who share and build power collectively on behalf of frontline feminists worldwide. Based in the United States, Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism supports individuals, organizations and movements in the Middle East, Europe, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Turkey, Central Asia, Russia, Canada and the U.S. Together with our Sister Funds – who resource feminist activists in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean – we seek to provide an interconnected tapestry of flexible support to feminist movements globally.

### Background and Context

UAF's communications work is central to its mission — amplifying the voices of frontline feminist activists, building solidarity across movements, and cultivating the donor relationships that sustain our grantmaking and collective care programs. At a moment of heightened threat to feminist activism globally, timely, strategic, and movement-centered communications have never been more important.

UAF is seeking a skilled and mission-aligned Communications Consultant to support a broad portfolio of communications activities from mid-August 2026 through January 2027 to support the team while a staff member is on leave. Working closely with UAF staff and the Communications and Advocacy team, the specialist will deliver high-quality content across digital platforms, strengthen internal systems, and contribute to long-term strategic planning. This period includes the digital dissemination of key reports, end-of-year fundraising, planning for major upcoming milestones including CSW 2027 and UAF's 30th Anniversary, and the ongoing work of monitoring and analysing our digital presence to strengthen UAF's communications strategy.

### Objectives

The consultant will:

-   Produce and disseminate compelling, movement-centered content across UAF’s digital platforms;
-   Monitor and report on social media engagement and engagement throughout their consultancy;
-   Support donor cultivation through regular email communications and drafting social media content and emails for end-of-year fundraising;
-   Amplify the work of UAF’s grantee partners and allied organizations;
-   Support event planning for Commission on the Status of Women in 2027 and the organization’s 30 year anniversary;
-   Contribute to and support the dissemination of key UAF publications and reports; and
-   Coordinate strategic planning for UAF’s communications and advocacy over the next three years and beyond.

### Scope of Work

1\. Digital Content and Social Media

-   Create and share original content on UAF's social media platforms, posting at least once per week on each platform;
-   Uplift and amplify grantee partners' content on social media on an ongoing basis;
-   Develop infographics and social media posts to promote UAF's grantmaking and collective care work and impact;
-   Maintain year-round website pop-ups to grow UAF's email subscriber list and encourage donations; and
-   Produce quarterly blog posts focused on issues impacting frontline activists or highlighting movement strategies.

2\. Donor Cultivation and Fundraising

-   Send at least one email per month to cultivate donor relationships and communicate UAF's impact;
-   Draft end-of-year fundraising emails and social media content, strengthening the campaign based on lessons learned in 2025; and
-   Support the digital dissemination of UAF's annual report.

3\. Publications and Events

-   Support the dissemination of UAF's Feminist Crisis Response Model;
-   Promote UAF's report on mapping collective care in the Balkans and the Caucasus across digital platforms; and
-   Support event planning for the Commission on the Status of Women in 2027 and the organization’s 30 year anniversary. 

4\. Strategy, Learning, and Planning

-   Support the work to finalize UAF's communications and advocacy strategy for the next three years;
-   Build or strengthen MEL systems to track and assess the impact of UAF's communications activities; and
-   Monitor social media, website, and email analytics on a quarterly basis and produce brief summary reports for internal use.

## Requirements

-   Demonstrated experience in nonprofit or movement-based communications, including content creation, social media management, and email marketing;
-   Strong writing and editing skills, with an ability to adapt voice and format for different audiences and platforms;
-   Experience developing or implementing analytics analysis for digital communications;
-   Familiarity with feminist, intersectional, and movement-centered communications approaches;
-   Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines independently in a remote setting;
-   Familiarity with social media trends and ability to utilize them for nonprofits while maintaining brand and voice alignment; 
-   Experience supporting fundraising campaigns, particularly end-of-year giving;
-   Familiarity with the WHRD and feminist activism ecosystem is highly desirable; and
-   Experience with website management, digital tools, and analytics platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Google Analytics, Buffer, and Wordpress as well as the more common social media platforms).

-   Apply feminist, decolonial, intersectional, and human rights principles across all communications activities;
-   Center the voices, safety, and agency of frontline feminist activists in all content and messaging;
-   Handle sensitive information about activists, grantees, and partner organizations with discretion and care;
-   Use secure communication practices appropriate to the sensitive context of UAF’s work; and
-   Collaborate with UAF staff and partners in a spirit of mutual respect and solidarity.

### Compensation

The Communications Specialist will be compensated at a rate of USD 125 per hour, at a maximum of 16 hours per week, with payments made monthly. The total budget for this consultancy is estimated at USD 52,000 total for the full engagement period. Payments will be made according to a schedule tied to key milestones and deliverables. Depending on the volume and pace of work, there is potential for hours and overall budget to increase over the course of the engagement.
