## Description

**We have a new opening for a full-time Physician - Pathologist at the** _**Naval Medical Center San Diego...**_

**CORE Duties:**

-   Supports all administrative tasks relevant to the laboratory and pathology services as directed by the department head.
-   Perform a full range of physician services in accordance with privileges granted by the Military Treatment Facility.
-   Uses this knowledge of new and advanced diagnostic techniques to serve as an authoritative consultant on very complicated diagnostic and treatment problems by recognizing rare and difficult to identify symptoms by applying a comprehensive knowledge of pathology; general medicine; emergency medicine; basic sciences, including anatomy, chemistry, and pharmacology; and laws, regulations, and provides on-site assessment for cytologic adequacy examinations of fine needle aspirations in various areas of the hospital.
-   Works with patients' body fluids or tissue to test for and evaluate a variety of pathologies
-   Performs gross examinations to obtain diagnostic information from specimens, including the stage and margin status of surgically removed tumors, and to gather information during the preparation of tissue samples for subsequent microscopic examination.
-   Gross specimens for processing as directed by the Anatomic pathology medical director.
-   Prepares patients' specimens for examination and/or intraoperative consulations.
-   Confirming patients' test results by verifying diagnosis is supported by other diagnostics, such as cross referencing. Respond to physician inquiries about pathology results or disease conditions.
-   Serve on the NMCSD tumor board as directed by the Anatomic pathology medical director.
-   Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
-   Provides accurate information about the pathogenesis, histogenesis, biology, and differential diagnosis, such as evaluation of bone marrow, peripheral blood, and lymph nodes.
-   Maintains the confidentiality of all patients' medical data, including Personally Identifiable Information/Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (PH/HIPAA).
-   Serves as laboratory medical director of select DOD Conducts on-site medical director visits and safety walk-throughs in accordance with accreditation requirements and fulfills all the regulatory and accreditation requirements of a lab medical director. Participates in meetings and committees as directed by the lab department head.

**Work Schedule:**

Monday - Friday  6:00am - 4:00pm - 8.5 hour shifts

No Holidays, No on call, or Weekends!

## Requirements

**Minimum Qualifications:**

-   **Degree:** Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.). 
-   **Education:** Graduation from a medical school in the United States, Canada, or approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA), graduation from a college of osteopathy approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or graduation from a medical school with evidence of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification. 
-   **Internship/Residency/Fellowship:** Completion of graduate medical education program in pathology or a pathology subspecialty accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). 
-   **Experience:** At least five years of independent clinical practice required. 
-   **Board Certification:** Board certification through American Board of Pathology in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Subspecialty certification preferred, but not required.  
-   **Life Support Certification:** Possess current American Heart Assoc or American Red Cross BLS certification.
-   **Security:** Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.

**Base salary:** $280,800 - $312,800 as W2 w/full benefits, or $436,800 as 1099 contractor
