We are seeking an accomplished **Director of Engineering** to lead the development of AI-native backend platforms and intelligent software systems that power next-generation enterprise applications. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced backend engineering expert with a strong background in platform architecture, distributed systems, and production-grade AI applications. You will define the technical vision, lead high-performing engineering teams, and build scalable platforms that leverage Large Language Models (LLMs), Agentic AI, and modern AI orchestration frameworks.

As a technology leader, you will collaborate closely with product, AI, and business teams to transform complex business challenges into innovative technical solutions. You will establish engineering best practices, mentor senior engineers, and drive architectural excellence while ensuring that backend systems remain secure, scalable, reliable, and highly performant. ## Requirements

### Key Responsibilities

-   Define and execute the engineering strategy, backend architecture, and technical roadmap for AI-native enterprise platforms.
-   Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable backend applications using Python and modern software engineering practices.
-   Architect robust microservices, distributed systems, and API-driven platforms capable of supporting high-volume production workloads.
-   Design scalable data architectures utilizing PostgreSQL and other backend technologies to ensure performance, reliability, and data integrity.
-   Build and deploy production-ready AI applications using Large Language Models (LLMs), LangGraph, LangChain, Agentic AI frameworks, and multi-agent systems.
-   Integrate advanced AI capabilities using OpenAI, Anthropic SDKs, Model Context Protocol (MCP) Servers, and intelligent orchestration frameworks.
-   Drive Platform Engineering initiatives to enhance developer productivity, automation, observability, deployment efficiency, and system scalability.
-   Establish engineering standards covering architecture, code quality, security, testing, documentation, and continuous integration and delivery.
-   Mentor engineering managers, principal engineers, and senior developers while fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous learning.
-   Collaborate with product managers, AI researchers, architects, and executive leadership to align engineering efforts with business objectives.
-   Evaluate emerging technologies and lead proof-of-concept initiatives to continuously evolve the organization's AI capabilities.
-   Ensure backend platforms achieve high availability, resilience, scalability, and operational excellence through continuous performance optimization.

### What Makes You a Great Fit

-   12+ years of backend software engineering experience with extensive leadership experience in designing and delivering enterprise-scale platforms.
-   Expert-level proficiency in **Python** with deep experience building scalable backend systems and distributed architectures.
-   Strong expertise in **Platform Engineering**, **Backend Architecture**, **API Design**, **Microservices**, and cloud-native application development.
-   Hands-on experience with **PostgreSQL**, data modeling, query optimization, and performance tuning.
-   Proven experience building **Production AI Systems** utilizing **Large Language Models (LLMs)**, **LangGraph**, **LangChain**, **OpenAI**, **Anthropic SDKs**, **Agentic AI**, **MCP Servers**, and **Multi-Agent Systems**.
-   Strong understanding of AI-native engineering principles, developer platforms, and modern software architecture patterns.
-   Demonstrated success leading engineering organizations, mentoring senior technical talent, and driving large-scale technology initiatives.
-   Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and strategic decision-making skills with the ability to influence technical and business leaders.
-   Experience as a Founding Engineer, startup technology leader, product builder, open-source contributor, hackathon participant, or research contributor will be highly valued.
-   Educational background from leading engineering institutions or a proven record of technical excellence is an added advantage.
